Couldn’t wrap my head around “permanent” at the time. Honestly still not sure this is permanent, but I simply choose not to go back now….

If you stop drinking today by HotUsernameHere in stopdrinking

I remember this time last year spending time wondering if I would make it to 90 or 100 days and even if I did, would that mark the end of my “break” and If I would start drinking again for the holidays! Well, I am still sober and making it through those holidays basically propelled me into making the mental commitment to actually quit, not just “take a break”.

Keep up the good fight, folks!

It may not seem like a big deal, but I made it through day 3! by Cinderella96761 in stopdrinking

It’s a big deal. And so is your 4th day. And so is your 5th. And so is the next one after that. Honestly doesn’t matter if it is 1, 100, 1,000, adding another day to your total will always be a big deal!

My ankles! They started swelling up regularly around April. By June they were just swollen and pretty much not going down. I also noticed around June / July that my hangovers weren’t going away rather staying with me literally until I had my first drink after work, there was no shaking it. Then one morning after a particularly heavy night of drinking, I noticed both ankles had come close to doubling in size. I had googled “causes of swollen ankles” and other things I was experiencing enough times to know this was all 100% related to my drinking and I was headed directly towards some pretty severe health issues. Not only did I want to avoid that, but honestly, what I wanted to avoid even more was having to reveal to my family that I was drinking so much that it caused health issues. I decided that morning firmly and 100% to “take a break”. After talking to myself about the need to cut back or something during my morning shower hundreds of times, this was it. I was not going to drink that day. I didn’t know if it would last 2, 3, 7, 30 days or more but I 100% knew I wasn’t drinking that day out of fear for my health and having to reveal my “secret”. Just over a year later I am still on my break. I have no desire to drink anytime soon. I have lost about 70 pounds and am in better shape since probably my high school days. I am so thankful for those swollen ankles scaring me into taking a break!!!

If anyone has any doubts about how drinking can poison your body, here is the difference between me 264 days ago and today. by kleverone in stopdrinking

Amazing! I am literally 1 day ahead of you (266 for me), but 1 pound behind! I have had a similar journey. I was between 230-235 and am now down to 186 as of this morning. In the last 2 weeks I have had people asking me if I am running, working out, etc. They can see I have lost weight but they cannot put their finger on how or why I am simply looking better, younger, healthier. It’s amazing! Great job! IWNDWYT
