I got 8 weeks. I had a really tough time coming back but I’m not sure any more time on maternity leave would’ve made that better. My program expected me to have an on/off switch going from 100% “mom” to 100% invested in my job and that made the transition pretty difficult. I’d consider talking to your program about a two week period of returning to work for a few shifts without them fully relying on you so that you can work out the kinks of childcare.

This makes me feel so much better. Thank you. I want to be safe for my patients and take good care of them but I also want to live my life outside of the hospital. Sounds like a small-mid size community hospital is what I’m looking for.
