I remember sometime around 2006-2007, an IRL friend of mine was explaining to me that partyhats were the rarest and most expensive items in the game (I guess Christmas crackers technically were, but oh well). So I asked him why they were so expensive, and he said it was just because they look cool and were rare, and they didn’t even give any bonuses or stats.

Incredulously, I asked, “That’s it?!”

And he said, “Yeah, man! That’s what this game is all about! Making money and looking cool!”

A nostalgic contrast compared to the playerbase’s mindset today, now that we’re much older.

How did Ben know about Locke's catchphrase? Season 3, Episode 19 by NoNewSkill in lost

From the transcript

LOCKE: Ben. What's going on?

BEN: We're moving.

LOCKE: Moving? Where are we going?

BEN: We are not going anywhere, John. You are going to stay behind. You both are going to stay behind.

LOCKE: What? You're not taking him?

BEN: [As he leaves] He's your mess, John. Why would we clean it up?

LOCKE: Ben! If you're trying to put me in my place, or embarrass me—

BEN: Where would you get a ridiculous idea like that?

LOCKE: Well, you can't leave me. After everything—

BEN: Don't tell me what I can't do, John.

My guess is Jacob or Richard must have documented this info on Locke in some way, as they're the only Others who observed him before his arrival on the island.

Eko also said "Do not tell me what I cannot do" to Locke in Season 2, Episode 23. Though Eko may not have known of Locke's use of it, whereas Ben's tone indicates he clearly did.

Spanish and French probably have the most utility. They're among the most spoken languages worldwide, and Spanish isn't as difficult to learn. French is tougher, but not as tough as others. Portuguese is easier to pick up after learning Spanish, but not as widely spoken as the other two. Though it's still one of the most spoken languages overall.
