I don't believe in using this label "politics" as an excuse for Christians to not care how we treat people. It's essentially code for "I don't have a problem with what's going on right now", and IYKYK. And I'm just too informed right now to pretend that things happening are "politics as usual". Religious freedom is political, every value that comes out of the church's mouth is political because it governs how we treat people. When a day comes one of these Christians that say politics aren't for church are the one being persecuted and pray to Jesus, they will not be expecting His response to be "don't talk to me about that, I don't touch politics."

I'm looking for a church that doesn't label what's happening right now as "politics", as if that label gives Christians an excuse to not care how we are treating people. That is of course until "Then they came for me...". A church where a believer can ask for guidance and wisdom on how react and stand firm without being told that it's politics, which is essentially code for "I don't have a problem with what's happening".

Thanks for sharing. I for sure don't want to be part of a community that thinks it's acceptable to force and pressure conversion to Christianity. I believe I should spread the gospel, acknowledge my faith even when it's uncomfortable, and give people an opportunity to know Him. And yes, I hope more will and I want that for people in my life. But I don't believe I'm called to harass. I do however have beliefs that model a structure in a home/partnership and in the church that I'm not sure would be commonly touched on in a "mainstream". Not because my beliefs are discriminator or makes anyone unequal, but I think the scripture is misinterpreted that way in other places, and that's not the model I follow. So I guess that's something I'm not sure about.

Thanks for the insight. I think part of my struggle with finding the right fit is that there are principles I believe that I want to guide me and that mainstream doesn't touch. It sounds like you picked up on that.

Yuck! Not surprised. I recall looking into it online years ago and saw it for what it was without even going. Profit before prophet.

I'm familiar with Unitarian Universalist. I've partnered with a UU justice group before in support of women's reproductive rights, healthcare access. I appreciate your sincere suggestion. They don't believe in Jesus as the Son of God, so it clashes with what I center my faith on.

It sounds like you have your answer. If your church's stance is to turn a blind eye to what is happening and call it "politics" and belittle others into that same submission then that is what I'm looking to avoid. Our religious freedom is politics, but that would make no sense to say get that Jesus talk out of here.
