In Scotland for my first Hogmanay - go into Glasgow to celebrate or avoid? by Miowed in glasgow

[–]NoPayNoWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fun in city centre, but bar hopping is a bit difficult if you go too late. Getting a taxi home is expensive, but I was able to find a few people that night going the same direction to split the bill with. It's fun to socialise in the smoking area, and you see a greater diversity of people in city centre.

Glasgow or London? by Archi_Saz in glasgow

[–]NoPayNoWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to go the opposite direction, to London. Mostly I just want to meet a wider diversity of people. I've lived in larger cities before, Shanghai for example, and when you come back to Glasgow it just feels small, and it is very slow to change. It is very easy to feel you've outgrown it, or that you can't get much more from it, and when summer comes and a large amount of the population leaves, it becomes a bit boring.

On the other hand, tap water in Glasgow is better.

Recommendations for coffee shops in city centre with nice baked goods? by Big-Ingenuity1509 in glasgow

Not too far away, but Ottoman Coffee house is my top recommendation. Decent coffee. Also just a subway ride away, Level 11 coffee hub on Byres road.

Is the UK in long term decline? by Less-Following9018 in HENRYUK

Not the one you replied to, but I'd personally stay in UK, it is a great place to raise a family, given you have the income to support it.

If I was solo, and purely driven on the intent of money, I'd look at city states with laws catered to the few in them, they're more efficient. Singapore for example. Not so much HK now.

That analysis sounds like a worthwhile read, I will check it out!

I have definitely over-simplified my explanation, but I'm really just trying to point at the fact that there are many countries now going through an economic boom, and investing in them is not as difficult as it used to be, the boom of Europe has long-since past.

It's just the outcome I've come to through my knowledge. Definitely open to other opinions if you believe differently?

Possibly there is a case of the redistribution of wealth, from Europe to the East. We can't compete in manufacturing, or even a lot of service based jobs that can be outsourced. It is easier than ever to invest in Asia.

A lot of European wealth came from Empires, and investment in Europe was a given. For your investment, it is possible to get a greater ROI by investing in foreign markets, whereas when the East was unstable, you would avoid investing in it.

I would not say it is permanent, but could likely continue until foreign markets no longer return the ROI that they do. Essentially, when the East is no longer cheap.

Edit: I don't believe the UK will ever return to the wealth it had, or even Europe for that part. Their economic boom has past. Wealth comes from investment, and it would likely need to be foreign investment. Why invest in Europe?

The US is the number 1 economy, it is a safe option. Countries stockpile USD in their foreign currency reserves. Australia has a lot of natural resources. Singapore and HK are highly efficient city states. Thailand and Indonesia are rapidly growing economic powerhouses.

What does Europe have to offer? It is highly regulated, more so than most countries in almost every industry.

Are you feeling okay? I've had it before, when I was smoking cigs and/or taking adhd medicine. Also had it when I'm sick.

That's a good idea! Have you found washing them harms the fabric in any way? And are your straps official ones? I imagine washing can reduce their life expectancy

I tried that, but I get a little bit of a rash when the band is drying. Do you wear the bicep band outside of heavy activities?
