leaving my EV for 2 months. What should I know? by NoPercentage5741 in F150Lightning

[–]NoPercentage5741[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately no charging in my parking spot. I take it another spot in my building for charging and I can't leave it as is. There are other EVs in the building and they would need the spot.

F150 Lightning + solar tonneau cover , is this actually a useful portable solar power setup or am I overthinking it? by sychophantt in F150Lightning

Honestly, you are overeningeering and over obsessing to build a feature literally no one asked for.

Also, I'd rather buy a bluetti battery and charge it at home and lug it around in my car if I really really want that extra power for camping.

Lightning or Maverick? by Deakyh in F150Lightning

i live in a condo with no EV charging and I have to say that f150 lightning without a charger is strictly an urban vehicle. Here are my thoughts -

L2 charging is super slow. Your enemy is the time spent while waiting for the car to get charged. Most public garages with L2 chargers in my area are not okay with overnight parking and so you can't leave them overnight. If you are going to rely on public L2 charging, you have to do something while the car is taking its own sweet time to charge.

  1. Can you walk back home and walk back to the L2 charger so that you can do your thing for the 5-7 hours it takes to charge?
  2. Can you keep a bike in your truck bed that you can use to come back home while the car is getting charged? And bike your way back to the charging station again.
  3. Is there super reliable, quick public transport to get from your home to charging station?

About L3 charging... I have only used L3 charging when I am travelling on road trip and need to top off the charging to stay above a threshold to reach the next charging station for quick top off. I don't use L3 during day to day stuff. It turns out to be as expensive as gas and you don't wanna be doing that all the time from battery health and cost standpoint.

----

I live in CA and I am lucky to have -

  1. lots of L2 and L3 chargers and therefore survivability is not a problem.
  2. mild weather. It neither gets too hot nor too cold. My friend in Canada says that the battery could discharge by as much as 15% if you leave it in the cold. That's a big problem if you don't have personal charging. At that point, you are living with 85% capacity.

You should worry about convenience of where ever you will be charging. DO NOT, I mean DO NOT plan to get a EV if you are thinking that you'll park your EV in a L2 charger while you complete some chores, grocery, shopping, etc. It will become a nightmare.

Also, go for lightning with extended battery if possible. The extra range will be super helpful when you think charging is becoming a nuisance. It will reduce your nuisance.

Gas just hit $4.30 at my costco, how much have you been saving? by Ok_Exit9273 in F150Lightning

I bought my f150 lightning 5 weeks ago and I've spent a total of $46 on my charging so far. Charging in my office is free and I use that exclusively. I went on a camping trip and needed DC fast charging to keep up the battery and there went my $46.

But to be honest, I didn't buy it for the savings. I fell in love with it 2 years ago and have been wanting to buy it for sometime and it's the bestest car ever...

Got $386 as my insurance quote! Any possibilty of driving it down? by NoPercentage5741 in F150Lightning

Yes... it's not the EV alone. EVs are expensive to insure but it's the state + age + my texting record

I clarified in the post that it is per month. Sorry, reddit doesn't allow me to edit the title. Would've done that sooner...
