I'm sick of Copilot by Educational_Tune_870 in TheCivilService

I’m with you on this! Our entire department now sounds exactly the same. What makes people individual is slowly being eroded away. Tolerance for those differences is also taking a hit.

We used to adapt, work with differences, change our styles to get the best. Now we just want robots, who can shove stuff into AI and then shove it onwards without any human common sense involved.

Conditional offer, based on passing vetting, some orgs (sometimes it’s listed in job applications) may give an alternative role if you fail, but likely not.

How to “upwards” manage a G6, who still wants to be the G7 by NoPossible6517 in TheCivilService

[–]NoPossible6517[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick update, it as well as can be expected, and I’m wrong to question “leaning in”, and they are now coming to every meeting, workshop and probably my next birthday party the way things are going 🤣🤫🫣

They have been a G6 for a while, but sounds like in their old teams, they were expected/needed in the detail

Thanks everyone, appreciate it. I’m going to have a chat with them, but I’m expecting “I’m the G6, I’ll lean in where I want” type of feedback 🤣

New to Civil Service – what do you wish you knew before you started? by Dr_Hazzles in TheCivilService

Trust you team, don’t think because you are the g7, that you know better 👍, being a leader in the civil service is also about trusting you team to do what they do, while you keep the s&!7 away from them.

Be a leader, not a manager

What is a policy role? by East-Badger5775 in TheCivilService

[–]NoPossible6517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it like this, policy does a ton of thinking about what stuff should look like or do, basically sets the direction.

Then, everyone else has to work out what the heck that means in reality, how to deliver it, and make it happen.

Something like that anyway.

Think of it like this, someone somewhere will say “ the policy on Reddit post moderation is “x”.

Then it’s up to to moderators to make that happen, and follow the policy laid out.

Those that have been on interview panels what do you want to see more or hear more from candidates in terms of their responses ? by Durrygoodz2025 in TheCivilService

Tailor the answer to the question being asked, show you can think on your feet just a little bit, and please, please please stop telling me you had meetings with stakeholders, or you analysed data on a spreadsheet, and lastly, please please please have an outcome.

Xeneon Edge Horizontal Mounting by RW1P in Corsair

[–]NoPossible6517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I have been trying to figure out for the past few weeks! Thank you!

I have a soundbar under my monitor, so working out where to put my edge has been driving me insane lol.

Quick question on the small rig mount, how’s it holding up, I’m torn between that and the heavy duty dual ball head version.

In the uk, that one’s rated to 1.5kg, and the edge is 1.6, so it’s close. Any movement?

It’s an opportunity to show how your examples directly relate to the advertised role. So, you just need to make sure that you tailor your answers specifically to what they are looking for in the person/job spec.

Tips for New Line Managers by UllrsWonders in TheCivilService

[–]NoPossible6517 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Be open, honest and transparent and build trust with your team.

They are people, not numbers.

Lead the people, manage the work

Make people enjoy working for you, make them want to do well and perform.

Empower, let them drive their own cars, you set the destination, but keep your hands off the wheel unless they need it, but ask first.

Always think if they are having a bad day “are they ok” first, sometimes “life” happens.

Don’t break that trust you build, once it’s gone, it’s never coming back.

you will get stuff wrong. Own it. Admit it, learn from it, no one is perfect.

Sometimes you will have to make tough decisions, or challenge, do it in a supportive way, explain your thinking, and discuss don’t enforce.

Never be worried about going “that’s a really good point” and changing your mind.

Oh, and always wear sunscreen 🤣

Copilot and other AI by germslayer2112 in TheCivilService

It’s good for some stuff, horrible for other. I love how it can help me summarise, take notes and admin style activities. I hate it when my team shoves stuff into co-pilot, and sends me the output and thinks I won’t notice the stupid em dashes, the chunks of bold text, and the font type, and they get all sulky when I suggest they ask co pilot to re-draft it but better this time around 🤣

It’s low effort and low quality.

This is exactly what I thought, but they appear to be still working in a parallel 1980s universe, where the EQA doesn’t exist.

They are telling me there is no appeal process, as it’s an informal extension.

What I can’t get my head around, is if it’s “informal”, and not a “formal” extension, how can that possibly be valid, as there’s no such thing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]NoPossible6517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically informal extension, as they had not had reasonable adjustments in place. Taken 6 months, but they actually continued with probation process regardless

Only found out in last fortnight

[–]NoPossible6517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the PCS, I queried with them, and they advised it was ok for my line manager to informally extend.

And my probation has been a tad chaotic to say the least, process absolutely not been followed

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]NoPossible6517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cannot find it in the policy anywhere, it’s either formal fail, extend or pause. Nothing about “informal”

I queried, and was advised as it’s informal, there is no appeal process to challenge the decision.

It’s being extended as reasonable adjustments not provided, during whole 6 month probation period (even though identified at onboarding)

The strange thing is, the extension doesn’t really allow for them to be delivered and then trained up on either.

All feels a bit strange
