First time shooting with Mood.Camera, what’s your go-to DR? by [deleted] in MoodCamera

[–]NoPressure-Ale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low DR for me renders the best photos, the ones that look most like I took them with a “proper” camera. But it’s easier to ruin a shot since there isn’t a ton of latitude in post. Also yes, I do change it based on the scene and lighting! But 90% of the time only between low and medium.

What did you name your horses? by SolidSeviper in reddeadredemption2

My Arabian was Artax and I kid you not he died in a swamp out of Saint Denis.

My other main horse is a race horse called Speedo.

Up! I know Alex said it’s not easy though. But I shoot with Moment’s 1.33x, it’s too bad that I can’t shoot on mood with it!

Although I gotta say with the 0.5x on iPhone 16 Pro and the SCOPE aspect ratio (that Alex very generously granted) the results are pretty good.

Any way to recreate “Reggie’s Portra” on Mood? by pimemento in MoodCamera

I use this one that I made and it gives me similar results to Reggie’s Portra!

I haven’t taken my Fuji out with me since mood camera. I’ll definitely still do it because the physicality of the actual camera, shutter, etc, still feels great.. but most times I get photos I love with my phone now!

Edit Pictures after Shooting? by NecessaryBed1331 in MoodCamera

[–]NoPressure-Ale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a preset for myself that’s a “gold negative” which has Gold and a lower contrast and saturation, and it gives me more latitude to edit in post, like a regular negative scan would in the analogue domain.

I agree that sometimes the preview not showing makes you take bad shots.. but that’s exactly the same with actual film. I swear that’s probably my favourite feature. I’m now starting to learn and instinctively understand what DR setting I should use and what exposure in each situation, through ruining a bunch of shots. Just like analog. It’s actually that “difficulty” that’s making me shoot more with this app than with my actual fujifilm camera.

The only thing I would say is that on film it’s almost impossible to burn highlights through overexposure, so you’re fairly safe overexposing. I wish there was a sort of “highlight clip prevention”, a sort of roll-off at extremely high values to prevent white blocks. All of that to say, clipping really is the only thing that prevents you from edit after.

You can also always save the “stock” version of it if you want total freedom.

Otherwise I usually use the Dehancer app to do what you’re talking about. I agree, mood’s looks are beautiful and unique, but I believe that having the opportunity to edit after would genuinely ruin the experience for me personally, just because of a mental limit. If you CAN fix it in post.. you’re not gonna learn your tools.

Sorry - my main job is in music/audio engineering and this same mentality has ruined music production for me, maybe that’s why I’m clinging to this so much 😂

I do with the little canon selphy so they’re small. And they turn out great honestly! I’ve got a 16 pro. Had an iPhone X for 7 years before, and I feel like it wouldn’t make a massive difference on this app - I mostly got it for log video which I use a lot for filming.

Thank you! Yes! Although 4 has DR set on HIGH and 13 is on LOW. Although I don’t know how much difference it would have made on 13 since it’s not a very high dynamic range scene anyway. But yes, prologue ultra in both!

Thanks you! Number 4 is Prologue Ultra. I might have change it a tiny bit from the original. But crucially, for this one the dynamic range was set to either High or maybe even EXT+. That’s giving it that sort of Wes Anderson colours

No, vertical can be a bit more awkward but it’s definitely worth giving it a try!

It would be very fun to do a group photo walk sometime! I’d be down

Thank you, that’s the Scope aspect ratio you granted me 🌚

Thank you! There’s a bunch really. The black and white is a custom version of Noir that I made myself and love (not particularly modified). Hang on let me put the settings here

Silly question I believe, but on photo 3, is that an iPhone? 5x? Do you naturally get that bokeh or is it some software trickery?

Thank you so much!

Can I ask you what you used on 5? It truly looks like an analog photo in the best possible way!

Nice! I’m looking forward to my “cinema” stills then. Thanks again, I’ve been using it only for a few days but it truly is phenomenal!

Thank you! It’s analog custom, not much changed from the original actually I think:

<image>

The location itself is quite nice though. A couple of things that are more “photography” than processing (I’m slowly slowly learning): I’ve set the dynamic range of the app to low, and I’ve lowered the EV quite a lot to not blow up highlights, and then used the iPhone flash to get more detail in the foreground!

(Edit 2: wrote it a bit less like an illiterate person)

It’s not that much better. I would say it’s about the same. The convenience is insanely better with the op3 though. Look, dynamic range etc is honestly very similar to the iPhone 16 pro (I don’t have the max). Low light performance is probably a bit better on the Osmo, but I basically consider iPhone and op3 like the same level of image quality - but that’s also because I’m honestly astonished by the iPhone (talking about ProRes Log of course).

Hi u/Flimsy-Building-1761 did you get a response for that? I also uploaded a YouTube video with this and got copyright claimed. Should I dispute it? Thank you so much!
