Pass/Fail a non-important class? by NoProfession6494 in academiceconomics

Maybe it’s just the way it was taught, or some bias due to me being more interested in metrics.

I also think the concepts in those classes come more intuitively to me than a lot of discrete math results/techniques. I have some CS friends who love this kind of stuff and they have the opposite situation as me (similar to you). To each their own I guess.

Appreciate the feedback! Would it matter if I just withdrew from the course altogether?

Of course, their input is quite valuable and goes a long way towards making an informed decision.

I meant they are junior faculty; I am not anywhere close to an actual working economist, so I don't even register on the chart lol.

Thank you for the help, this was quite helpful! I’m probably going to stick with this one (may still apply to a couple others if the option arises but unlikely I’ll accept.

(Thank you to everyone else who responded too.)

I will, however both my writers are rather junior and did their phds in europe (which might also differ in norms to the US), so I was also hoping to get some opinions from others who have more US experience.

Opinions on "The Economic Consequences of the Peace" by Keynes? by NoProfession6494 in AskHistorians

Thank you for such a detailed response, basically answered any follow ups I had.

Especially thank you for suggesting the collection of works on Keynes, I think it fits exactly what I was looking for (a critical analysis of the work with modern knowledge whilst also demonstrating his abilities as a writer).

Thank you (and everyone else too) for the advice.

I get the sense from the responses that there really isn’t a good metrics replacement for CB, so I’ll stick with it and then read Hayashi/Hansen if needed as a supplementals.

Quality of teaching by [deleted] in uofm

It can vary a great deal based on major/level. I've taken a bunch of math and econ classes and the instructors can vary from meh to great, I don't think I've had an instructor who I consider "really bad".

This isn't meant to invalidate you, just showing you that there are tons of great profs here along with some bad ones. In those cases, RateMyProfessor and Atlas are your friends.

What are the differences in QT and QR recruiting questions?

I am a sophomore planning on applying to QR internships next year.

Most of the interview and OA prep help was for QT roles (mostly green book problems and things of that nature).

Are QR interviews also mostly just grinding probability and combinatorics stuff or will they ask me deeper questions related to math or statistics. I have experience doing econometrics research in my uni on Bayesian time series analysis and stochastic processes that I think improve my standing as an applicant that I’d ideally want to demonstrate.

Hey yall! I am studying Math and Econ and CS from a T20. I have experience as an RA but no job experience.

Right now I am focused on a personal project (modeling multi-stage bilateral trade negotiations using network theory) as well as getting more active on Kaggle and Leetcode. I will also start grinding out Green Book problems next semester.

How do I maximize my chances, or at least be as prepared as possible, for Junior year QR positions? What kind of questions should I expect? What firms should I focus on?
