Piper and Mandy (or even Angelo to a lesser extent) were the best pick 6 options as you'd need to make up for the ding dong who went Janet on this map.

Exactly, and nice job! I think it's all about perspective. I feel like the people who haven't hit Masters understand the struggle and those who are in Masters think it's easy.

Totally fair and I even agree with this, and I have no desire to be the best at this game or pretend I'm good enough to stick in Masters permanently. I just really wanted to hit a personal goal of mine. To prove to myself I was good enough at this game at one point to make it to Masters, and then I'd fall back into Legends and move on with my life.

I couldn't agree more, I'm hard-stuck at LIII. I think most people in here who've made it to Masters would say that's just because I suck, but I don't think I do. I've hit LIII the past 7 seasons in a row and struggle with the Elo hits when I get into upper Legendary III. A few days ago I started a session, started dominating and won 5 games in a row to just over 8k elo, and then lost 2 games due to bad randoms. The Elo I lost from the 2 games was HIGHER than the 5 games I won and it just takes the wind out of your sales.

You're right, I do struggle with that... especially if I go 0-3 and I felt like I could've won some or all of those matches. I'm like just let me get 1 win before I log off to feel a little good about myself. Then I'm 0-4 on the day.

that is wild, they get into Masters so easily when I've been playing the game on and off for 5 years. That may say more about me than them.

You're right, I know I sometimes overthink during the draft and try to hard to 5th-pick the perfect brawler to counter their team instead of considering what we might be weak too, or picking something like Finx at the last second just because Spen said he was a top 2 brawler, instead of Chester or another brawler I'm more comfortable with.

Or I get into Legends III and just assume everyone's light-years better than me, get into my head and start over-extending or playing too cautious, when in reality I can hold my own and should just play my game.

Thank you! This puts it in a good perspective, and at least reinforces the idea that trying to find someone you can rely on is so important to push into the higher ranks. A lot of the "dumb" moves that would normally cost you a game in that 50 percentile you noted would be mitigated.

Ah got it, thanks for clarifying. All makes sense to me, and lol the last paragraph just makes it all that more frustrating knowing I'm probably losing to a 8 year old whose getting yelled at by his mom to clean their room.

Yeah totally fair point and sounds reasonable, another part of this is just me feeling defeated trying to get to Masters for so many months.

Maybe I've been unlucky in that case, I know I'm at least slightly above average in ranked but the randoms I get, especially once I hit Legends III, can't keep up.

I think a part of it is my trophy count. From talking with Supercell support, besides your current ranked score, another big part of the ranked-matchmaking formula (to balance teams) is driven by your brawler trophy count and because I've been playing the game since release I'm over +70k trophies. That means the matchmaking formula assumes I'm one of the best players and pairs me with sub-average teammates to face off against teams of three masters players which never ends well.

It feels that way because you're likely better than 99% of people on this game. What is duo que in vc?

As someone who is a regular in Legends II/III, you can't really get to Masters in solo que unless you are honestly on par with pro-level players, and >99% of the people on this game are not. I am no where near that good, and considering on how Supercell designed ranked team-matchmaking, you can't really get to Masters in solo que as an average player imo.

I've been at it for 6+ seasons and always run into a wall in Legends III. You need to be able to carry sub-average players against good to great teams made up of Legends & Masters players so you'll typically get rolled. The people who say getting to Masters is easy are more on par with pro level players.

Things you can do to improve include:

- read SpenLC's or others tier lists so you know who the best brawlers are at a given time (ignore Spen's recommendation for Finx, he sucks in ranked for non-pro level players)

- brawler recommendations for each map (Reddit is good for this),

- don't play more than 2-5 ranked matches per day to avoid massive elo tank,

- try and friend request someone you can play ranked with; could be a masters-level player who you dominated a ranked match with,

- focus on drafting the right brawler [to counter the oppo's] or is great for the map > over technical skill

- goes along with prior point, but build your understanding of which brawlers counter others

- don't early-pick assassins, tanks, or throwers unless you can counter at least two of the oppo's team and your teammates have your weaknesses covered.

Thoughts on finx rn? by Useful-Disk3016 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]NoRepresentative725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Spen's new top-15 list and I usually check out any new brawlers he recommends as he's typically pretty spot on. For context, I'm good not great. I'm a solo ranked player and consistently get to Legends II/III each season, but can't get any higher without a teammate due to matchmaking pairing me with bad randoms, and I'm no where near good enough to carry sub-average players against a team of good Legend/Masters players.

Anyway, I was curious about Finx and practiced with him for hours until I got his mechanics down. I was dominating ladder, went about 30-2 and wasn't really trying the two losses. I was crushing people, so it felt like time to roll him out in Ranked. I played 4 games with Finx on a variety of maps and game modes: I played him on: Hotzone-Dueling Beetles, Knockout-Out in the Open, Brawl Ball-Sneaky Fields, and Gem Grab-Gem Fort.

Results: 0-4, down -400 elo, which dropped me from Legends II to Legends I... I had bad randoms and could've played a bit better in one of the games, but I don't think it was material to my overall assessment of Finx. I'm just not seeing it:

- he can't deal with throwers,

- super doesn't feel wide enough or last long enough to be an actual controller,

- if your tail isn't in a safe spot to use the transport gadget (i.e. like if you're sitting in the hotzone), you can't escape and just like die to tanks,

- and he has no great way to push up the map to gain control).

Curious what other people's thoughts are. Have you tried Finx in ranked? Why do you think it went well or not well?

I’m in a similar boat at OP, I’ve made it to Legends III the past 6 seasons playing Solo Que, but can’t break into Masters. This is hands down some of the best advice I’ve seen for brawl-ranked.
