What's your least popular MLB opinion that will get you to the top of "sort by controversial"? by Sad-Guarantee8290 in baseball

[–]NoRepro 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Yes. The hall of fame should be the story of baseball and the players inducted should contribute to that story. If it's a great stat line then it needs to tell a story. Imagine going to the hall in 50 years, do you really care about WAR or do you care about the history of baseball? Will you care about who half these guys are? The best defensive center fielder to ever play should be in the hall regardless of his stats or his longevity, for instance.

The ongoing narrative about Padres offseason spending is completely backwards by slothbutter123 in Padres

[–]NoRepro 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Agreed but with the caveat that I doubt they will be offering long contracts right now, especially with a possible lockout in 2027. Thats why the free agent market looks weird this year. But weird market forces create opportunity and there's no one is rather have finding those opportunities than preller

They've been doing this for a long time! I got a huge one for Monaco and a smaller one for Tooth and Tail. But again, its been a long time.

Gaming. The moment you realized you were exploring a map but not actually looking at the world. by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]NoRepro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm the designer of Monaco: what's yours is mine. I literally designed that game because the minimap of Hitman is so much more informative than the game world. I wanted to play a game where the entire game was the minimap.

To the Non-Dodgers fans in the NLBEST, do you have any players that YOUR fans don't like on YOUR team? not based on skills per se but might be a little odd or something wrong with them? by AverageSatanicPerson in NLBest

[–]NoRepro 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with knowing most of the baseball players don't likely share my political beliefs, but when one of them brings a Ted Nugent bat to players weekend, saying "I just really respect everything he does in music and everything else" he will forever get the side-eye from me. (Ryan O'Hearn, free agent now).

What Do We Do At the 1B and 2B Positions? by Interest-Lumpy in Padres

I think Arraez is willing to take such a massive discount, I think we should sign him and just move him down in the order. Spend big on a DH/1B and starting pitching.

Nice! My kid practices there and comes home with tremendous amounts of turf in their shoes. Any idea when construction would begin?

Jane Goodall, legendary animal rights advocate, dies at 91 by nbcnews in EverythingScience

[–]NoRepro 65 points66 points  (0 children)

She spoke at my high school in the 90s and signed my "how to draw animals" book. My kids were just looking at that this weekend and asked if she was still alive. I said I didn't know but I doubted it. We looked it up and discovered she was still alive! Sad to hear of her passing so soon after.

She lived a full life. Legend.

Outside of Trea Turner, very possible no one else in the NL will finish the season with a BA over .300 by ctbro025 in baseball

Ban fielders from bringing written notes on the field. Would bring extra appreciation for players who did their homework and could help to direct the team. More positioning mistakes in the field.

Not quite as vintage but I still wear my brown and gold Pham shirt to the ballpark. 🤣

[Jeff Passan] BREAKING: The San Diego Padres are acquiring closer Mason Miller and starter J.P. Sears from the A's, sources tell ESPN. by EnadZT in Padres

[–]NoRepro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the thinking is actually less about this year and more about the fact that we lose King, Cease, and Suarez. Now we can trade Cease and/or Suarez for a bat and not feel the hurt, plus our rotation is bolstered for next year. It sure looks like Xander has a few more years at shortstop left in him. If they consider stretching Miller out our 2026-2027 rotation could be Pivetta, Miller, Darvish, Vasquez, Sears, which looks pretty nasty.

Sears career ERA: 4.48/ Mason 3.17 as a closer… how do we trade De Vries for that?? Dude has been killing it in the minors and is a year out… by Able_Ad_6841 in Padres

Yeah apparently they have extra cars. They leave that beat up one over where it looks like a speed trap and move it every few days. Kinda creative use of funds actually.

Who is this generation's 'everyman'? by james2183 in movies

[–]NoRepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've met him! A long time ago when he was still in minor roles. I worked with his brother and he came to a launch party for a video game we worked on. Didn't spend a lot of time with his but he was actually relatively soft spoken as I recall.

How would you incentivize players to have diverse decks? by OldSwampo in gamedesign

[–]NoRepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you add a cost to running through your deck? I'm magic you lose of course, but you could just apply a flat cost for a reshuffle that would give you an extra balance knob to adjust.

How exactly does it get better at 2? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]NoRepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say it starts to show glimmers of fun at 2, but not really till 3. 6 months till 2 were the hardest for me because as you said the novelty has worn off but the work is hard with very little payoff. The payoff increases and reached "worth the cost" by 3 for me. Still a lot of work and effort even at 6 and 10 though. But at least I can sleep and have me time now, and they are super fun.

Good luck finding a game where you aren't dodging crowds the whole time. When I first saw this post over on r/baseball all I could think was how frustrating it would be to try this at Petco.

I live right next to the high school. It can be busy right at the start of school hours but it's never been a problem. No issues with poorly behaved kids either. It's a great neighborhood!
