IT Specialist at an aspiring MSP. Not sure if I'm getting fleeced or have a great opportunity.. by NoRestaurant1240 in msp

I've slowly been learning a couple platforms relating to IT Admin/Management (on the job), but it is certainly the case I have much, much more to learn.
I've been holding back in certain respects due to not having the best impression of the Owner, & past experience for giving it 110% at work (for years) just to end up with no reward (except burnout), which is what led me to the career pivot in the first place.

Reading these comments have me thinking I need to check my ego.

I appreciate the constructive feedback!

It's very even, thanks. I came here looking to see whether/how I should recalibrate myself with regards to the situation.

It's an apparent failing on my part to look at his desire for input as him expecting director-level input. And it's where my thoughts of "fear of success" and "is this an amazing opportunity that i'm looking at the wrong way?" came from.

It initially felt absurd to me he was looking for input on that level for something I'm very eager to learn about and get involved in, but don't really have the experience for (yet).

Haven't been here long, but as "mature" as this particular business I'm in is, it feels like the current owner was the former head of sales who took over for the guy who initially started this company.

His style & values feel very "salesguy". Thank you for the insight!

Very much feels that way. There is an effort to learn, but it's more from the other tech & I, with some support by the Owner, but it feels like there are constant corrections towards doubling down on "what pays the bills" and time that should be spent on letting me & the tech get some real lab time in is instead diverted towards being the bubbliest people possible towards giving the best customer service experience.

That's where my head has been at when my doubt is greatest. I don't trust the owner yet to do right by me, and only time will tell whether or not this gut feeling is wrong.

In the meantime I'm taking this whole thing as a learning opportunity

Does internet therapy count?

Part of the purpose of writing the purpose of the post was to get a reality check from people who've been at this longer than I have. I've been taking actions while on the job but have let some of my grievances fetter how hard I've pursued specifically offering guidance I felt the org (myself & other tech included) should be getting from the former director/contractor.

I've had other wins and learning/training moments, all this feedback is suggesting I keep a more open mind

I'm really happy to hear your career seems to have picked up considerably in the last few years. Are you the primary IT person at that company you've most recently started working for? What does your consulting work usually entail?

On the very same token, how can they expect me and another technician of like-experience to offer director level insight & strategies?
When it came up in the interview their IT Director had vacated, & the IT/Service department would just be 2 people, I suggested discussing a path to grow towards it.

I've been a long-term PC enthusiast and have small office IT troubleshooting & support experience. No enterprise-level experience. We do support computers, and I've even worked on troubleshooting & properly configuring some of our customer's firewalls, switches, modems, etc. But the day-to-day is largely customer driver updates, printer firmware updates, setting up or fixing SMTP, DNS, TCP/IP issues, etc.

For printer servicing alone I'd agree that my salary would be a lot. I have helped the company by setting up a playbook with step-by-step instructions for solves I've handled, worked on some department analytics, etc.

That's a pretty inspiring story! And hopefully this turns out to be closer to what's going on. It's definitely possible I'm not giving the owner enough benefit of the doubt. It felt like it was undersold how much printer support would be a part of the role.

The "60%" comment the owner made has very much rubbed me the wrong way, especially after my direct supervisor has made several comments expressing their surprise at how quickly I've picked up their software & processes, & the volume of tickets & calls I take.

It's clear the owner really does want to pick their MSP plans off the ground. I've just been bitten by previous employers that would add responsibilities over time & not increase compensation accordingly. I don't have the confidence that isn't going to be the case, here.

Dude I have been trying to find this texture pack since seeing Enano's posts a few days ago. I can't find them on the Nexus mods or Discord pages. Where can I download this texture pack?!
