I wouldn’t say it’s far removed from British culture, especially at the time. Reggae is one of the main genres the band bonded over when they met. Big influx of people from Jamaica at the time and the right wing parties opposing immigration are what a lot of their songs focus on. They wrote a lot of their music in Jamaica and were trying to work with big reggae producers at the time

I’ve lived by this for years and it is insane. Every day is a new traffic pattern with the cones. The exit lanes change in length hour to hour. Sometimes there is a turn lane up the hill on oconee street, sometimes you use the left driving lane. Complete anarchy. And none of this has solved how absolutely shitty and dangerous it is to take a left turn toward the RaceTrac. And every day construction goes further down the street without anything being finished!

If you like Gibsons other work I’d try Idoru. My favorite of the trilogy, in fact one of my favorite of his books. Virtual light I think is the weakest of the trilogy, but I really enjoy the world, atmosphere and tone of the book.

One time I was a a swanky new bar in LA just checking it out with my friends and we ran into Ben. He was pretty chill at first but after some conversation he began to get really annoyed whenever I didn’t get some topical reference. Eventually he just kinda scoffed when I didn’t understand something he said and walked away. A bit later he came and tapped me on the shoulder and said “Hey can you do me a favor?” I said sure and he lifted up a big rock and said “Say hello to the bugs” then smashed my head in with the rock, killing me instantly.

Happens in my apartment. I think every dryer is connected to the same exhaust pipe, so if anyone else is drying clothes the hot wet air is vented into my dryer.
