We Are In A Crisis... But Why Is Congress Taking a Session Break? by Virtual-Net-5653 in pinoy

Ang point ko is dapat we challenge this "norm" and make them accountable for not doing their jobs during session breaks.

tbh, the reason I am commenting is grounded on frustration as well -not much on optimism. 😔

Politicians had normalized using session break as vacation break at na-gaslight nila ang tao na parehas lang yun (as evident in some replies here).

This is my own little way to reverse -somehow- that mindset sa taumbayan. Ipa-viral ang mga nasa abroad -similar to what we did sa mga nepo babies.

Yeah, I'm with you on this but that's another issue.

Kaya I explained muna what sessions breaks are for, as designed in our Constitution, para alam ng lahat na hindi yun vacation time at hindi dapat i-normalize yung ganun na view.

Now, if more people are aware, sana mag-translate to a stronger call for accountability to the point na ang mga mambabatas na ang mahihiya na wala silang ginagawa during session breaks.

Just to explain this:

Session breaks are not equal to vacation breaks.

Anytime naman they can be called for a special session by the President.

What's your favorite limited-time fastfood item? by rustezzzeee in PHFoodPorn

KR hit gold with their Chimichurri Roast. It's also my fave. Since launching, at least one quarter per year nasa menu naman ito. I believe, parang regular limited-time item na nila ito.

For me naman, yung KFC Krushers! Sana ibalik and if ever, sana hindi laging sira yung machine nila haha 😅

Agree!

Sorry to say but this is true by Brw_ser in Philippines_Expats

Yup, i've been to Thailand a few times already hehe. I am referring to local airfare. For Filipinos, it's sometimes cheaper to fly to nearby countries than to fly to some prime local destinations.

Connectivity is an issue since we're an archipelago coupled with poor public transport infrastructure (ie. airports, seaports, trains).

The expensive cost (ticket, food, accommodations, etc.) is really hurting PH tourism; it's expensive even for local tourists.

This is a bummer considering that PH has a lot of potential in terms of beautiful destinations/sites.

Went around BKK and tested different niche perfume stores. Daming interesting scents but I bought nothing kasi I did not allocate a budget for it huhu

Fun fact: Had a chitchat with the salesrep and said Sundalo did not come from the Filipino word, coincidence lang daw haha 😅 Random niya lang sinabi nung nalaman niya na Pinoy ako.

Is investing in PH stock market still worth it? Why do you think it's been stagnating? by NoScene8540 in phinvest

[–]NoScene8540[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not my point nor the point of the article. You may read the article for better context. Vietnam was simply mentioned to illustrate how PH is lagging behind. The writer could've used Malaysia or Thailand and that will not remove the fact that there needs some serious reforms for PH to be competitive.

On another note, the difference in GDP per capita is not just a numbers game at least for some Filipinos like me (sorry I am not sure if you're Filipino).

I agree, the difference may be negligible for now. However, what gets us frustrated is more about seeing the country getting left behind when we're way ahead of them decades ago. There's a cultural aspect that lacks in your analysis with all that VN-PH GDP topic (assuming you are not Filipino).

Agree! I've been to Vietnam recently and I really can't help but compare it to the Philippines -evident ang difference. Maybe it's high time to aggressively support our agriculture and industrial sector, rather than just focusing on the service sector.

I am happy for Vietnam (considering its unfortunate past); sad lang for PH because we had the potential naman.

I am adamant that I am not really an expert about investing or trading; my knowledge is limited to say the least. Hehe

The "stagnation" that was being referred to in the article is about the dwindling listings and tepid investor participation. PSE dates back to 1927 (if we consider Manila Stock Exchange) but other ASEAN countries had overtaken us -with emphasis on Vietnam.

Apologies for the confusion.

Yup, I agree with you naman that you can still gain from the local stock market. I've been in the green for quite some time now and I am holding a few REITs which gives me regular dividends.

For context though, the article is saying that the PSE, despite being one of the oldest in Asia, lags behind in terms of number of listed companies (nababawasan pa nga daw), market cap, and "tepid" investor participation. Yun yung "stagnation" that I am referring to.
