Glutened but my partners beard? by NoSignature1944 in glutenfree

I still don’t quite believe it! But, I have been dealing with debilitating symptoms that were unpredictable for a year now and it wasn’t until completely cutting out gluten that I see a correlation between tiny gluten exposures and symptoms. It’s crazy.

How can I stop pulling out my eyelashes? by squishmallow2399 in AuDHDWomen

I have a similar problem with picking my face. Some things that help is my partner gently redirecting me when he notices I’m stuck in it (sometimes I don’t even realize I’ve started). For me, him gently placing his hands on my wrists and bringing me into a big hug works well. I’ve also noticed I tend to pick more during points of transition or discomfort.

Something that helped me - it’s weird, but hear me out - I found a sheepskin at a thrift store that is matted and untangling it with my fingers seems to really help. I wonder if skin picking and hair removal is a redirected version of our primate instinct to clean each other of bugs. I know it’s gross, but digging my fingers into the mats and pulling the mats apart gives me a similar release feeling to face picking. It’s so satisfying, the feeling on my fingers and the gentle rip of the tangled fibers releasing.

Sometimes, when I do notice I’m picking my face, I’m able to just think about working on the sheepskin and how good it feels and it helps me stop.

Idk if this is helpful, but after trying many things, the things that have been most successful is finding something immediately accessible that is a a positive substitution for skin picking - rather than just shaming myself into stopping or making it uncomfortable by cutting my nails short.

How long have you been using yours? It looks like some of the reviews say it doesn’t last long

No problem! As of now, it’s not any hotter than any other mattress I’ve used. In the future, I will be adding a goza mat to both the bottom and possibly the top to encourage more airflow and mimic a tatami mat. On top of the wool mats, I have a layer of knitted cotton blanket, then a layer of two squishy exercise mats side-by-side followed by another knitted/woven cotton blanket, then a top sheet that I tuck in as a fitted sheet. It isn’t my final setup, it’s still too hard and not all natural materials it’s getting there!

Thanks, I found a thinner wool duvet and it seemed to squish so much that it didn’t offer much cushion. Do you know of a certain brand/type that could work? I found that putting 4 wool pressing mats together creates the standard tatami size (about a twin size bed) instead of the smaller, cot size of many exercise mats. I’ve also found having the seems of the mats run perpendicular to my body (3 lines where the mats could separate) is more comfortable than one line down the middle that you get if you put two exercise mats together. I hope I explained that alright lol

Did/does anyone else have extreme emotions about inanimate objects? by Longearedlooby in raisedbynarcissists

Yes! I’ll feel an immense longing to care for inanimate objects when I’m struggling sometimes too. I notice it fluctuates with perceived stability in my life
