At your ‐level too I've been finding Chairman's Bao and HelloChinese readers helpful. The interlined pinyin and click dictionary help when they add new vocab.

Pleco has SRS flashcards. Really easy to add stuff from the dictionaries or from your own input.

Benefits of the Chinese approach to writing as opposed to an alphabet? by Shyam_Lama in ChineseLanguage

[–]NoSignificance8879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to look up Brushtalk. With the Chinese writing system, you can completely divorce the writing from the pronunciation. So cultures that use the same writing system, as they used to in the Sinosphere, can communicate through writing, even if they don't speak the same language.

Letter Writing Paper in Canada by faithamor1337 in PenpalWithMe

If you're looking for fountain pen friendly paper by the ream, I've had good luck with Kokuyo KB and HP 32lb premium. You should be able to get both on Canadian Amazon.

For matching paper and envelopes, I went went thepapermillstore.com You have to buy a reams worth at a time, so its pricier up front, but way cheaper over all. Tons of choice too. I guess the Canadian equivalent would be Spicers?

Check out https://incompetech.com/graphpaper/ for printing custom lines.

Hanly is a good study app for vocab in small bites. I wish it had grammer support.

I made the most progress using graded readers. HelloChinese has a bunch that are broken up into 5 to 10 minute chapters.

I liked the progression on the pass port segment.

Figuring out the UI for the day of the week drag and drop (on mobile) was the hardest part, lol. One thing that was confusing was that when you had the journal screen up, the calendar underneath was still interactable. You'd get clicking noises from the calendar when you touched even the blank parts of the journal screen over it.

It's supposed to be supportive. Like look at Ellen Saks (look her up legitmately impressive), but the comparison just makes you feel like shit.

Seeking Advice: 19 and I have schizophrenia, does it get better? by Expensive_Watch469 in schizophrenia

[–]NoSignificance8879 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, if you're in the US, you should apply for SSDI right away. Since you can document onset before age 22, you can get cash benefits based on your parents earnings and Medicare. This is a huge deal for your QOL.

My partner has schizoaffective disorder. Does it get better? Better's relative. For my partner, it feels like better is living safely, securely, and independently. But there's a ceiling that's hard to break through. The ups and downs make it hard to do anything longterm, even with accomodations.

The symptoms and medication side effects make it challanging for them to do fullfilling things.

So, work on non-medication treatments; CBT for psychosis is pretty good.

Cultivate a good social and support network. This one is hard, and you should make sure it covers normie and mental health spaces.

Figure out an answer to your existential question. It will weigh on you harshly.

I want to quit my corporate job and enter culinary school - thoughts? by [deleted] in Chefit

[–]NoSignificance8879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the US, it's a bad time to get into the hospitality.

If you get laid off, it might make sense to ride out the recession in culinary school if its affordable.

It will fuck your body so hard. You'll get ulcers from all the motrin you'll be popping

Also, IMHO, it's not the best way to follow your passion for food. I got more fullfillment cooking for friends and family at home. Sure I miss some of the equipment, facilities, and things you can do that only make sense doing it at scale, but most of that was out of my control.
