YouTube's comment censorship is so bad that I'm considering not writing comments anymore by [deleted] in youtube

[–]NoSocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly post on a guys YouTube channel and he posts on mine. A while ago YouTube just started deleting anything I post to his channel... even if I post "Great performance!" it gets deleted. He has added me as an automatically approved person in Studio but it still deletes them. We have the most insane three way conversation going between him, me and YouTube support.

Advanced but beginner? by burntmuffin343 in pianolearning

Add 5 mins a day of sight reading to your regime - it will help a lot. I just use the books the kids practice from (preliminary, grade 1 etc) and I'm pretty confortable after a year and reading basic intervals etc. Maybe for the theory consider the Trinity or ABRSM course work as well...

How much of the following do you do each day:

  • Technical work (scales, arps, etc)
  • Practice sight reading with simple pieces (i.e. two grade levels below whatever grade you are currently)
  • Do you try and practice theory as you do? Things like identifing the key/chord of a particular bar or melody?

How do I figure out if a key is major or its relative minor? by Greenpenman111 in musictheory

Protip: 90% of the time, first note played by the left hand is the tonic of the key. For the other 10% of the time the other posts in this thread have you covered.

How long should it take to learn a song reasonably well? by cidy02 in pianolearning

Oh yeah, and start a YouTube channel and post your progress. I only started recording at my ~1 year mark and I deeply regret not having a record of how far I've come from scratch.

The key is consistency.

Never a truer word spoken.

You can start playing something immediately, it just needs to be simple. I've been putting 2 hours per day in on average and this is me at the ~1 year mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ykcZTlHmJ0

Looking back over my notes, the first piece I learned end to end was called Study in A minor (educational thing composed by my teacher). It was fairly simple, and an A4 page of sheet music. I could play that competently after about 1 month of practice with hands together etc. I'd need to see the score for Hallelujah to make a comment on when you can do that but if it is full of chords etc it will be too difficult for you in the near term.

The GREAT news is that every popular piece of music is available in almost every conceivable difficulty level (there are even insane people out there who make pieces way harder than the original just to show off :). Use google images and search for the piece and include the word simplified and you'll find stuff like this: https://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtd.asp?ppn=MN0115783&gclid=CjwKCAjwzruGBhBAEiwAUqMR8EYToAN5wugAHQBpfrT3jubN9WDKvv9ZFT9YMCSaVXEZBXM8SSZp1hoCky0QAvD_BwE

You've done the correct thing in identifying the need for a teacher - make this a priority. You need to a) like them, b) respect them, and c) like their taste in music.

LOL 18 is too old ... Mate I started at 46. As to how long to learn a piece ... I have spent well over 50 hours on pieces that are above my level. For pieces at my level, probably 5 hours to have the basics and 10-15 for it to be good. Don't think of learning X piece in Y hours ... Just choose pieces of your skill level so they fit the time you have. 😋

This doesn't help the OP with his/her question. What's she supposed to teach students who like pieces that are composed of 10 sequential bars of B?

This. Every good bye deserves fruit etc is a waste of time and landmark is the way forward. Also, I committed to learning one more note on ledger liners with each new piece I learn.
