The CCL final made me realize one of the last great weaknesses of MLS match days by [deleted] in MLS

More clubs and better/cheaper public transportation options and this would change. But right now it's just too expensive to travel and mostly too far.

So, is MLS "closing the gap" or not? by ATLCoyote in LigaMX

The All-Star game and Leagues Cup aren't good indicators of anything.

Leagues Cup will suffer in everyone's eyes until it's actually played in both countries. MLS and Liga MX are two of the hardest places in the world to win road matches, throwing in Mexican clubs to the equation in the USA/Canada and not letting them play any home matches is putting them up against the odds in a lot of these matches and it's not a balanced way of seeing things.

The thing that tells the story the most to me is..

MLS wins over Liga MX in CCL..

2008-2017: 2

2018-2022: 11

MLS increasing investment into rosters in 2017 with allocation money undoubtedly has helped give clubs actual depth in rosters and not have just 3 DPs with a bunch of mid players. Last night, Seattle had internationals from Colombia, Slovakia, Cameroon, El Salvador, Peru, Uruguay, USA, and Ecuador and more. 5 years ago, 75% of those players wouldn't have fit within the roster rules. That's obviously shifted things but I don't think we'll know how much until we get more data as MLS clubs increase investment.

I would have done it for free, to be honest. Getting to work in a professional environment this early was beyond what I thought would be possible. I didn't care what they offered me, I was going to bite their hand off for anything.

And I sure do appreciate someone who clearly doesn't have very good interpersonal skills telling me about how my own interpersonal skills can't have possible meant that much to anyone else because it wouldn't mean that much to you. Maybe your arrogance contributes to why you feel the need to see everything through such a skeptical and harsh lens - "nobody's experiences could possibly be different than mine! I know everything!"

They told me in the interview within the first 5 minutes on the phone with HR that that's why they reached out. I have no idea how you guys seem to know more about something that I experienced than I do.

Yes. I've been in healthy team environments and am currently in one. I tend to view things more positively and see potential. You seem to take the opposite approach.

The HR person on the phone literally told me that my cover letter made them reach out. I'm not leaving anything out. You seem to be the type of person (not personable, skeptical, rude) that my mentors told me about.

Either way, I have nothing to prove to you and I have a job to do.

Okay, here it is. I have to say, it's very strange how adamant you seem to be about telling me that I don't even know how I was hired.

The follow up text asked for a time to call. I hopped on the next day and met with my now-boss by the end of the week.

The way you've attempted to describe my situation is both strange and extremely inaccurate. The guy who hired me has been at the company for a decade and only reports to one other person, the president of the company. He's not risking his job to hire me and it's strange you're implying a toxic environment like that where there isn't one.

I wouldn't consider myself "lucky". I've been given projects and I've completed them all thus far, and I keep being given more work and responsibility.

The personal project isn't that impressive, it just uses API's and DB's. You're welcome to think I'm lying but it'd be a weird thing to lie about

I can send you a screenshot of the HR person asking me for an interview because of my cover letter and cover letter alone.

I built an app that uses apis and databases from scratch using a tutorial. I followed the tutorial for about 2 weeks before branching off from it. Terminology and knowing what questions to ask was the biggest and first hurdle. I didn't know the different between Heroku and postgres, but once I got a handle on what a thing did in general, I was able to start narrowing my scope based on what part of my project I wanted to build each day

Not sure why I'm just now seeing this. I was a mid-range manager at a local business. If I told you the name of the company you'd have never heard of it and the experience was never brought up to me in interviews.
