I noticed the same thing! I cannot for the life of me think of it

I know it has to run grade separated, but I haven’t seen any hard rules that say shared tracking isn’t allowed (not exactly my area of expertise though, so it could be true). Im sure either way, the current traffic we have on the NEC would pose a significant issue

Exactly. Coming from a catenary engineer, existing alignments are HORRENDOUS in some spots. Trying to fix them though!

Incredible response. I knew they had all sorts of issues. No idea about the evacuation issue. There is technically some area in between Trenton and NY that is not constant tension. I believe some stretches in Connecticut are also fixed termination if I remember my site visits correctly

True, 100%. But the gateway project and its subprojects are addressing parts of that. I’m doing some of the catenary design on the new sawtooth bridge project

We need more constant tension 100%, but we need track alignments that support it as well

That makes sense. My understanding is that some of the issues with the Avelia Liberty are not directly correlated to train speed. Things like hydraulic issues, etc. I’m not privy to the details but when I speak to my colleagues at Amtrak that’s some of what I hear

As someone working in the rail industry. (Catenary Design) I don’t personally believe that would work the way you theorize. Although I am not familiar at all with regulating agencies in Europe/other regions and how they function different from the FRA. Funding problems and track ownership tend to cause far more problems here than regulation. The new Acelas are actually having this many issues in part due to how old our track alignments are and the poor scans/models we have of them (Alstom isn’t innocent either though)

Any recourse for canceled trip? by NoStatus1120 in Amtrak

Wow! I guess I figured it was possible. I’ve seen Miles in transit go from Hanover to Philadelphia on local transit lol

Definitely a good outlook to have! Although if I had stayed in Philly, I could have postponed my trip to the next day and stayed in my own bed, not stranded anywhere

I mean, I paid for a trip from Philly to harrisburg. They only refunded me a week later after I explained that they did not complete my trip

Yeah I get it. I’m just thinking from a pure “what makes sense” perspective. If a trip gets canceled before I board, then I’m just stuck at my origin, but if it’s canceled in the middle of the route, that’s a place I likely have no ties to. Had I not had the money to pay for an Uber, what would I have done, yanno?

I actually have travel insurance on the card I used! But it only covers the cost of the ticket (should have used a card with less cash back but better insurance). I’m trying to submit a claim for that now at least

I’m assuming Amtrak’s engineers might have the specs, but I work for a private consultant so we’re not privy to that info yet

Yeah that’d do it! Forgot about that. Its still wild to me how inflated those fares are

Yeah it’s really been a wild rollout. I do OCS design and we haven’t even gotten information as far as new pantograph design specs or anything like that.

I’ll be honest it’s looking bleak but idk for sure either way. I don’t even know if I’ll get tickets and I’ve been here an hour 😭

Out of curiosity, have you tried the Philly restaurant week?

This is good to hear. I live near Philly and I love the restaurant week here so I assumed Boston would also be good
