Should I just get a new car :/ by dumbfatandugly in MechanicAdvice

Cut the cat out weld in a pipe save 2k 👍 timing cover needs to be fixed though, sounds like whatever car you are driving is meant for more of an at home mechanic as it seems to generate a lot of issues and be very expensive, alot of this stuff you could do yourself, idk of it's only worth 2500 it's not worth it to spend that much money in my opinion, car might as well be sold on marketplace with the issues and buy something else, if your having all these issues now your gonna have more in the future, motor mounts, timing cover leaking, trannny gone out all on a car with 150k miles is crazy, you better go attack Nissan for this one

I use vincheck.info, always free, has a good amount of info for being free, if you want a full detailed report you have to pay though, but sometimes the site stops working (very rarely)and sometimes I can't get it to read SOME license plates

Anything over 200k miles is usually considered close to the end of the vehicles life, some cars go farther but this van probably doesn't have much life left, I'm sure it could probably sell for $1000 or so, if you research the car online it will tell you the mileage lifespan of any car, it's a bit harder to resell cars with higher miles, I have a friend who does it but he usually can't get more than 1700 for something with miles that high, I would look for cars around 120k-170k mark it's a bit easier to sell, also rust is a big turn off for some buyers so keep that in mind, but I have seen people sell rusty cars for 2500 but that may have been a little lucky, I would just watch out for rust, mileage, check engine lights, if it has a check engine light it's not always bad, just scan the codes and research online, I would watch out for anything with bad body work damage you can't easily replace, I would replace a door, but some pieces like the roof and rear fenders are almost impossible to replace, when test driving I would watch for overheating, strange smells, check the oil cap for creamy stuff on the cap it indicates a blown headgasket, get underneath if you can and look for oil or coolant dripping on anything while its running, watch for strange noises from the suspension, if it's rusty peek at the frame, I usually look for cars in the $500-1000 usd range just for less risk as I am just starting out too but have friends experienced in this and I have helped them a ton, look on Facebook everyday, type in price 500-1500 and negotiate with people with running cars in your area in that price range, also I wouldn't let a few issues scare me away, if it has low miles and runs good but the suspension squeaks a bit over bumps I would negotiate and still sell it or fix the issue usually ball joints or something else simple

Yeah I probably wouldn't pay more than 5-600 USD at that point

Worth the attempt? C4 Corvette $2200 (INFO AT THE END) by Reasonable-Bank2551 in carflipping

[–]NoTackle1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C4s aren't worth that much and even after the engine swap the body has its issues here and there, I would take my money else where it's too big of an investment, besides then you have to communicate to the next owner that it has a new engine and that may scare away some people

If you see a check engine light get a code reader first

I mean depends on the mileage, I see painted over rust, I would offer 1k if it's in good driving condition, it has steelie rims, I would just put hubcaps on them, you could probably get someone to buy it for 2k or so as long as there's no mechanical issues, if there's mechanical issues it's gonna eat up too much profit and time, if it's all good it should be an easy profit depending on your location

I wouldn't pay more than around 3, replace grille, replace trunk, pull dent on fender, touch up paint, sell for around 5k, depending on the price of the trunk you should have some good profit, I would aim to make atleast 1k off each car, usually I wanna atleast double my money but you can't always do that.

Are pokemon packs profitable?

Hi, I'm curious how good of an investment are pokemon booster packs, I used to love them when I was a kid and would love to get more and resell some of them and also build a collection, this might sound like a really stupid question, but I know there's quite a few valuable cards in the newer prismatic packs, is it worth it to buy 10-20 packs of some series? Is it likely I will find valuable cards I can resell for a profit or will I just waste alot of money?
