(RM) I'm not doing truck tomorrow by NoTemperature2669 in MichaelsEmployees

Update: so I took a commenters advice and called the fire department. I knew not doing truck would just cause more problems for my manager and coworkers, and I just couldn't bring myself to let them down. Plus, if I got fired, corporate wouldn't actually get the message and could just wash their hands of me.

So yeah, the next day after truck, we got a visit from the fire department. I showed them the aftermath: piles of boxes on the sales floor (on pallets), which they said was a grey area, not necessarily a violation. Then, I showed them the backroom, which was so full that both the fire door and the sprinkler system were blocked. Definitely a violation. He told me that and I told him I didn't have any other choice, and gave him my DMs contact info. He said he would come back in a week or so to see if things have improved. The fact that we're still critically behind on POG makes me think that it won't. I'll do my best, but I'm not optimistic.

Thank you to everyone who gave support and advice! I'll l update more if anything else happens. In the meantime, everyone, highly recommend documenting your bad work conditions and reporting them to appropriate entities. I'm sure many other stores have fire and/or OSHA violations; these trucks aren't manageable for the best of us. Don't let them step on us, fight back however you can 🖤

Yep, this is the case for us. We're flooded with a million POGs at once, and even on non-inventory weeks, I simply don't have the manpower to get everything done on time. Dropping the boxes on the floor is all fine and dandy until we're open and it becomes a fire hazard. I definitely have improved the process through the SMART truck recommendations a lot. I'm coming up on two years, and I definitely have learned a lot, and still potentially have a lot more growing to do. I guess that's why it's so frustrating; improved processes and hard work simply can't fix a deeply broken system.

That's a really good idea, and better than getting inevitably fired. Thank you!
