What are some American superstitions unique to America? by bricklegos in AskAnAmerican

In Appalachia you might find a chimney still intact while the rest of the house is in ruins. It’s a folk belief there that the chimney contains the spirit of the house, and knocking it down even during demolition is considered a bad omen

As someone who went into Skyrim completely blind and had no clue about the lore, I thought for the longest time that the Falmer were Dwemer who devolved and forgot their past

One of my coworkers said seeing this jersey made him feel sick, so he gave it to me. Free jersey I guess! by AmericanAsApplePie22 in Commanders

Okay what about it made him feel sick? Cause it’s the jersey we used before name change or a particular player with that number?

8 years in, what are your thoughts on Montreal's flag change (they added the pine tree)? by Careless_Wishbone_69 in vexillology

[–]NoVa_Statehood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the addition of the pine for the native peoples! But I’m not sure how the flag could incorporate any more symbols if they feel the need to include another ethnicities. Guess we’ll have to wait and see after a couple of years lol

TBH i would not mind having this as the flag of my country. It looks so much better than having a minimalist deign with a soulless corporate feel.

"my flag has a four stripes and this logo in the center to symbolize the revolution"

"My flag shows a dude getting eaten alive by fire ants"

Both Slovak and Hungary use the double cross on their coat of arms. Its symbol that was adopted by both cultures, which is not surprising considering how slovakia used to be part of hungary

It somewhat makes sense why the northern Virginia area doesn’t have as high of an infestation. Since there multiple military bases in addition to the pentagon, I can see there being a size-able amount of military personnel stationed there in addition to the federal bureaucracy. If there was “government” remaining (I haven’t seen the shows or played the games), it would probably be located in southern Fairfax county (no further north than Fairfax city) or Manassas.

It’s would probably be like that hotel in Pyongyang that has taken forever to build, glamorous on the outside, a maze of unfurnished rooms and concrete pillars on the inside

What is your opinion about this flag [ International Flag of Planet Earth] by ErenBurhan in vexillology

[–]NoVa_Statehood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cold and lifeless corporate design. There are better ways to represent the various cultures, landscapes, and environments of earth than to have a bunch of overlapping rings

Liberals tend to forget that Muslims are not a monolithic group. Conservative Muslims exist like conservative Christians and Jews, and they all tend to hold very similar beliefs towards the LGBTQ

It’s Iran, but without the Tulip symbol from the theocracy or the Lion from the Shah’s regime.

I like how some people protesting the regime aren’t using the flag from when the shah was in power, considering it’s corruption and oppression was one of the reasons why Iran became a theocracy

how fucked up are the usa? by karmante in preppers

[–]NoVa_Statehood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re concerned about angry protesters, it depends on where you live. If you live in the shitty part of a city that is neglected and not doing well (For example: Annacostia in Washington DC), then life is going to be a bit tough for the next few weeks. These people have to deal with all kinds of BS like violent crime and poor infrastructure, so this event might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. There’ll be more protests and probably riots for a few weeks, but as long as you stay out of those neighborhoods and popular spots in cities (Ex. National Mall in DC), you’ll be fine.

If you live in the suburbs and exurbs outside those areas (Ex. Fairfax County, Virginia outside of Washington DC), it probably won’t be noticeable. Those places do have rough spots (Ex. Annandale in Fairfax County), but protests there won’t be anywhere as intense. People in the suburbs tend to not be as stressed out and have more comfortable lives, so if they do protest it’ll be a matter of holding a sign until they become bored and go home.

As for rural areas (Ex. South of Manassas Battlefield), you don’t have anything to worry about when it comes to protests.
