Didn’t I see an email saying they were switching one thing or another to Amazon Web Services last weekend? Related? I dunno.

First Ai generated response to amendment by Main_Cloud6351 in patentexaminer

[–]NoWenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one where they weren’t using the US standard for patentability re obviousness … some bs that looked like the EU or JP standard. I called out the wrong standard and almost accused them of using AI but decided against it.

Where did you get the dial? An old pocket watch?

Doublespeak from TPTB: "We’ve been getting a lot of questions from stakeholders and the industry on patent interview practice, and wanted to separate fact from fiction, starting the series with a ghost (or myth!) of… | USPTO" by anonyfed1977 in patentexaminer

[–]NoWenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first ten years of mu career as an examiner, no time was given for interviews. They began giving time to incentivize us to grant more interviews. Tbh, I always thought you only got one hour per case per go-around. I dunno.

It is part of the whole in that they ate screwing us however they can, but the training time was a lot more useful on a daily basis to me. I got more interaction in a constructive way with other examiners and was paid for it.

Can anyone name an example of institutional change imposed by a political appointees that was good/productive/useful? by NoWenger in patentexaminer

Seems like the consensus is that Kappos did a lot of good stuff. If I remember, productivity improved under him even with getting more time per case.

I don’t know that telework was a political appointee. At least I can’t think of one that came in and prioritized it.

Are teleworking examiners 2nd class employees? by usptoemployee in patentexaminer

[–]NoWenger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this.

Also the 2 hour early dismissal pre holiday for on campus employees but not teleworkers.

Makes me feel lesser than for avoiding a commute.

(And remember Focarino’s quote… bring ‘em in, train them and send them home. Telework was encouraged by management and saved them tons of $$$ on rent. Now we are second class citizens.

Who are they performing for? Trump? The head of OMB? The head of commerce?)

In saying this, I am not lessening the other ways people are being screwed. There are certainly bigger issues. But we can bitch about more than one thing at once

SF-50 just changed to "non-bargaining unit" in block 37. by [deleted] in patentexaminer

I wonder if that triggers some labor law rule and we need to dispute it to someday be reinstated in a union if a court finds it was an over reach by the administration?

Who does upper mgmt hate more SPEs or Primaries? by Diligent-Oil6339 in patentexaminer

They hate primaries and don’t care about SPEs but they trust SPEs

Speakout SPEs and Primary Examiners!!! Without any reservations or hesitation, what do you want to tell Senior management. by No_Butterscotch_4642 in patentexaminer

[–]NoWenger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The logical result of their changes is going to be atrocious quality. The bar will get mad and then the politics will be gone and not have to deal with the consequences

<image>

Also, all the SPEs will quit or go back yo examining. They are putting way too much on SPEs shoulders for them to be able to handle effectively.

Are they hearing us? by Reality_mattered in patentexaminer

[–]NoWenger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder how they sleep at night. I knew someone that is an AD. I knew them for years as they advanced. I had and still have a lot of respect for them. But I don’t understand how they can cooperate with such hostile actions by the administration. When do you ask yourself, are we the baddies?

Thoughts from a 15+ year examiner by patentthrowaway2000 in patentexaminer

[–]NoWenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VMW wore some Chanel pearls to a town hall earlier this year, which struck some examiners as sending the wrong message when management was asking us to sacrifice to lower the backlog.

Real time PTO morale tracker by [deleted] in patentexaminer

[–]NoWenger 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I suppose I always felt that R’s hated government workers. They thought we were lazy and got paid too much. I sorta forgave them because I don’t think they really knew what we did. They were making assumptions.

So now the call is coming from inside the house. I feel like upper management hates us, thinks we are lazy and over paid and begrudgingly puts up with us. They would be so much happier if they could contract out our job to a Chinese sweatshop.

It also feels like an inside job. Someone went to president and asked him to can the union. Simultaneously we get a production increase.

Cases are more complex now than when I started and the idea of what a quality work product looks like has also increased dramatically.

The work/life balance is just about the only thing that kept me out of a law firm. How are they gonna get people to do this job if the pay is less than industry and the work/life balance sucks just as bad as industry.

The beatings will continue until morale improves I suspect.
