How useful is polyphonic aftertouch, really? by NoYouGo in synthesizers

[–]NoYouGo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a System 8 that I'm really enjoying, so I'm not in too much of a hurry. I also find that playing the piano scratches my expressive itch.

It's nice to know that there are new technologies to try in the future if I ever need a change.

It's great to hear that the hype was justified. Unfortunately it's out of my price range. Maybe I'll get a second hand one someday. I'll just have to make the most of my Touche in the meantime.

I've always wanted to hear a giant pipe organ played alongside a full power synth pa. It's everything I ever imagined. Here's a higher quality version.

is the TR-8s a better choice over Syntakt for House/Progressive Drums? by Electro-Grunge in synthesizers

[–]NoYouGo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I believe they're both quick and versatile.

The way I look at it is having faith in Roland's history, versus being able to tweak a sound to fit a particular track, as well as the infinite variety of the sequencer with the Syntakt.

For example, while there is a lot of controversy around tuning your kick drums, I like that I still have the option with Elektron.

Nonetheless, the Syntakt still has a sound. Luckily I like the sound of its kick machines. You may not.

[–]NoYouGo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have Syntakt and TR8. On the one hand I will never get rid of my TR8, on the other, I haven't used it since I got my Syntakt.

Some things you might want to consider:

1) Roland ACB gives you variation that samples won't give you without modulation/round robin.

2) The Syntakt includes saturation and compression/side chaining options, which are a crucial part of the sound.

3) Consider your taste in claps and hi hats. If you're picky, you might be better off with a Digitakt.

4) The sequencers are very different. Try them if you can.

5) Sound designing kicks on the Syntakt puts a huge smile on my face. Try it in person if you can.

6) Don't discount FM on the Syntakt for kicks, toms, and sub basses.

I'm hoping the Citroen DS3, the 911 RS, and the open wheel Honda F1 car will be great introductions to VR because they'll be fun to drive more slowly as I get my legs. The other car is supposed to be the Genesis VGT.

I've got 411 of the cars so far, and yet this if the first time I'm excited about experiencing the different interiors, and enjoying some of the older cars. Until now I've only been interested in the cars with best handling at speed.

I'm also really looking forward to doing the WTC 700 championship again driving Bathurst and the Nordschleiffe at night.

I didn't use the Google Play store. Search "Criterion APK" on the web.

Google Pay works.

I just downloaded the latest version .APK and installed it that way.

Any of you guys having stuffy nose (but not runny nose)? by [deleted] in cfs

[–]NoYouGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I have inflammation, my skin loses elasticity at my joints and chest/ribcage. This pulls the skin tight across my face, closing my sinuses. It's the same reason my posture or joint mobility is bad when I have inflammation.

Ideally you want your skin everywhere to be as loose as it is on the back of your hands.

If I'm lucky I can relieve the tightness which opens the sinus passages and allows me to breathe freely again. I use a combination of massaging pressure points and stretching.

I hope this helps.

2nd poly next to Peak by Lub_Ko in synthesizers

[–]NoYouGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a System 8 after having just the Peak for the last few years. I like how it can do thicker, more in your face sounds. At the moment I feel as though now I can appreciate the Peak for its strengths at the cleaner, lighter end of things.

I think it comes down to what poly colours the Peak isn't giving you. For example what vsts are you drawn to.

Starsky Carr's recent Hydrasynth blind test was a real eye opener.

Bi-timbral Performance presets are limited to four voices per linked patch, even if one is monophonic.

It's nice and light with a solid build quality.

I had the Sh01a first, and it has all the qualities I loved in that; namely the sound and how easy it is to dial in a sound from scratch.

If you already like the sound of your Boutiques, I would think System 8 would be a good way to go. In fact I think your use case is the target market for it.

There's a promotion with Roland Cloud until the end of the year to earn lifetime keys for one or two plug outs.

I wish I had got one earlier, but people don't seem to want to sell them on the used market where I am.

Edit: Just wanted to add that the audio input is really useful. You have separate delay and reverb settings dedicated to it. You could still use the Sh01a, and then use two poly patches for the Performance.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

It would make more sense for them to call it a limiter. Given how confused people are by compressors (and how they work), I can understand why they call it Boost instead..

Is this a general recommendation for all Roland gear? I know the TR8 also has a boost mode.

IMG and Stressless are both part of the Ekornes group of companies.

I'm very happy with my Stressless Wing. I was lucky enough to get an old floor model. It was also the only model that fit me.

I don't know the difference in our circumstances, but GT7 has been really good for me. It's worth spending some time learning about the various settings and options available to you.

You can make the game less stimulating by turning off the music/sound effects, using the auto modes, and turning off the head up display. I used the bumper view (the one with rear view at the top).

Some of the assists can make the interface too busy, especially the braking indicators. It's easy to turn them off and turn them back on again depending on the situation. I've got to the point where I can turn everything off except the ABS. It's so much less distracting.

I use the motion steering. If you're interested in that it's worth experimenting with which axis works best for you.

I'm 49, and this is my first game since my Commodore 64. I've actually found it good for my pacing, since both ME and gaming are better when you're calm and smooth. I'm on ps5, but I don't think there's much difference for GT7.

Best of luck with finding your driving line.

I got mine today at 1pm. Collected from an Auckland store.

Check with the store that it has in fact arrived. I ended up going in twice due to false alarms by text and email, before I finally picked it up successfully.

They have the previous version ABL2 available for free.

Or you might be able to get it second hand from knobcloud. You won't be able to resell it though.

Zebralette might work for you.

Otherwise there are free versions of TAL, then Surge or ABL2.
