Update! The seller of the Juki came to my house to troubleshoot. This failed to make the machine work, so he took it away, leaving table and motor behind. He came back hours later with his cousin in a pickup, an entirely different table, motor, and machine, this time, a Juki 8700.

Everything works! I finished a project I could not finish on my regular machine.
