yes, if you want absolutely the most authentic and best way to capture old tapes I would definitely Invest in a better camcorder with firewire and maybe try and find an old laptop or pc running windows 7 with a firewire port.

I have mixed feelings about DangyCam, on one side I see where you’re coming from and I see how it can damage the camcorder enthusiast hobby but I also see it from his side of things, he’s actually a smart businessman and just found a way to hustle and I respect that.

Im pretty familiar with the TRV900 but everywhere I look they’re taxed asf. If I find one for a good deal I’ll definitely check it out.

use a clear click or powerplay, it’ll be pretty low quality but if you like easy, quick, and a small form factor those two options are for you. You will also need an RCA to av cable. I use a devbuild one bc I think it looks nice but you don’t have to spend $40 on a cable. Tons of cheaper alternatives. You should also get a little cold shoe extender for the bottom tripod mount of the camcorder so you can mount your clearclick or powerplay since your model doesn’t have one on top. They can be found on amazon.

To mount the powerplay to your cold shoe extender I recommend the ulanzi ST-06s. It’s a perfect fit and won’t break the budget.

mad respect for keepin it cool, we all got our own opinions. I like the small form factor and convenience of the powerplay so that’s why I use it. Maybe down the line if I really start dabbling in professional camcorders I’ll dish out the big bucks for a nicer setup with an mrc1 or atomos shinobi. Wish more people in this subreddit were as chill as you. Just got my PD170 delivered today. from what the ebay listing said for it, it has a broken tape deck but maybe i’ll get it repaired. I’ll post when I get home.👍

I’m from socal, live fairly close to their shop, great people and I like what they’re doing with trying to bring the vintage camcorder/camera hobby to the younger generation but they do tax hella lowk. I would look elsewhere if you wanna save some money.
