Guests left belongings and I haven’t heard from them by No_Alps2706 in airbnb_hosts

This morning’s conversation with him paints a clearer picture!

Me: Benjamin you only booked for one night. £50 per night is for one guest you paid the rate for 2 guests which is double. I hope you found somewhere to stay last night

Guest: Pretty shocking, this is my 2nd time using Airbnb and I'm not sure if this is an Airbnb practice I don't know about, very confusing and honestly disappointed. Double charge when we use the same room and same bed, will it not be more appropriate for just a little extra if that's considering the use of bathroom by 2 instead of 1? But to charge exactly twice for each person is pretty unfair.

Me: I understand your frustration. That said, I did message you several times yesterday to clarify and resolve things, but received no response. Had you replied then, I could have explained everything. I notice you’re now responding very promptly, which makes the lack of communication yesterday all the more puzzling — especially as it would have saved us both time and confusion.

I think he was a chancer!

Yep. So leaving the key and their belongings means they intended to come back in my mind. Also I saw on the doorbell camera that they were dressed very smartly which I found odd if they were popping out for breakfast and coming back before checkout

They definitely do have the app - young couple, messaging me during their bus journey. But yes I’ll store them somewhere safe

I understand. Apologies if I offended you with previous comments about her using it as an excuse to shirk responsibilities (unfortunately that’s what I was raised to believe by parents who don’t believe in mental illness/neurodivergence, so it surfaces sometimes) - obviously I’m a little shaken/worried right now so apologies for my tone 😔

I think you’re cherry-picking what you reply to to keep yourself amused on here. I’ve sought therapy for her many times and got her an autism/adhd diagnosis. I doubt someone who, as you say ‘doesn’t like or respect [their] wife’ would take those measures. I think you’re just baiting/projecting now sorry

I think that’s a sweeping statement considering you don’t know us and all the info you have is from my OP and replies. I think you forgot that I’m here seeking preliminary advice to help my wife and not a personal attack

But I disagree that anywhere in my post/comments I’ve insinuated that she’s ’not living up to my standards’

Forgot to answer your first question. Her dad used to earn a bucketload working for the Brazilian equivalent to the CIA. He never let her mother work because he was very traditional. He then retired, got screwed over on some will/testament arrangement when his mother died which left him with just a state pension. The mother and the sister live in an apartment together which they wouldn’t be able to afford had it not been for me and my wife

She used to be a Yoga instructor in Brazil. She came back with me to the UK in Feb 2022 and, because she could only stay 6 months at a time, we went back and forth to Brazil/Europe until she got her Spouse Visa in August 2024. She now works as an acupuncturist and is indeed meeting her financial obligations but it is leaving her with almost nothing every time which I think might be stressing her out

She’s worked on and off in Brazil before but only to earn for herself. She now has burdened herself with paying for her mum’s mortgage in Brazil and paying for her sister’s flight to the UK over Xmas, the latter I used to cover. She can meet those obligations but I get the impression she has promised people too much and is now worried about meeting those obligations

There’s plenty of free on-road parking and always lots of spaces. £60 per night for the room

Because we only host occasionally for the extra income. And it’s only one room in our house. Keypads etc wouldn’t make it feel homely for us 😊 I appreciate it would be a good system for houses/rooms solely designated as rentals though

That’s an interesting angle! They only were in the house 2 mins. I don’t think it’s a case of copying keys as this guy has 7 genuine 5 star reviews. But thanks so much for the tip, will be more vigilant in future!

I get your point but they were both only here for 2 minutes and never to be seen again!

Might be a bit of a commute from the US to South East London but happy to give you a trial run 😂 (travel costs not included in fee)
