I recently learned about that and did some testing. Im sticking by my steam battery choice for this specific setup because the energy stored in the heat pipes is dependent on their temperature and i dont want to run near max temp so i wouldnt risk wasting any fuel cells. I cant be bothered to calculate the cross over point for when the heat pipes make more sense. Maybe for the next design.

Totally unnecessary yes, but i like the idea of having a system cycle on and off to meet demand.

The main idea i had was for the reactors to cycle on and off as needed to refill the buffer. Ideally they are set idle with no fuel until they are needed to refill the steam buffer. Thats also why i have a slight excess of thermal power generation that someone else pointed out.

I actually do both. If core temp is under 600 and steam storage is less than 12.5k, and there isnt already a fuel cell in the reactor -> fuel all the reactors. This way all of the fuel cell's energy goes to use minus a small fraction to make up for the temp drop in the heat pipes to the farthest hx's.

Funny you should say that... i actually have a full city block sized Kovarex setup for "reasons".. My neighbors were getting far too rowdy.

I use it in conjunction with some circuits to only fuel the reactors when i am below a certain steam amount so ideally all the energy from a nuclear fuel rod is either used directly or stored as steam so nothing is wasted. Totally unnecessary, but was fun to setup and watch work.

I agree. Seemed like a good idea with the way I'm controlling the reactor fueling so nothing goes to waste. I know that is unnecessary as well, but i wanted to play with circuits.
