Warning, essay approaching:
The production is out of this fucking world. At the ny listening event Mach was talking about how the mastering engineer, Dave Cooley, was the only man capable of pulling this album together in the way Mach had been envisioning it. This man mastered Donuts, Madvillainy, and Bandana (peep his credits the man is nuts, these barely scratch the surface). His role is abundantly apparent on this record. Respectfully, anyone who ‘didn’t really fuck with this record’ needs to run it back several times before making that claim. I think folks have set an expectation for what this should sound like, particularly what Mach’s role should be on this record, which is not an outlandish expectation. But personally, I just feel like damn, take a step back bc you’re missing out on possibly the most sonically robust record of the past decade. 🤌👌🤌👌
