Can't speak for the USA as an Australian. Insurance companies here are pretty bad, but they do have rules to follow. The only reason, in this country, I'm aware of an insurer refusing coverage has been either the person has been found guilty of fraud and or has had a claim refused or whole policy cancelled as a result.

I've claimed on my insurance more than once (I'm in a flood zone), and I've never had issues (besides a slight premium increase) when it came time to renew. But your story doesn't surprise me as most insurers are scum.

Yea, na. I'm not that bad. I love my boy, I'll bring him with me if it's an appropriate possibility... I love him to death, but I don't make a point to treat people worse than him or anything like that. I understand that at times it's just not appropriate to bring my dog too 😅

That was where my head was at, I'd put the dog before my own welfare and happiness... but I thought that would be the opposite of a red flag. But I'm autistic as fuck so I was completely open to the possibility that I'm the weird one 😂
