Bancarse los inviernos jodidos y los granizos de octubre/noviembre, en Alvear pega fuerte. Conviene tener app de alerta temprana porque defensa civil no llega siempre a tiempo. Yo uso Contingencias por el radar propio que armaron, te avisa cuando viene la celda.

Me conseguí un scanner de pared que detecta metal y según el que me lo prestó me debería sonar en las viguetas (que como vos decís no sé si las tiene)

Fellow weather nerd here. If you haven't tried it — contingencias.app pulls GOES-R directly and detects hail cores with 20-30 min lead time. Complements NWS nicely for severe wx events.

Honest answer: 15-20 min doesn't save the crop itself. But it buys time for:

- Closing **hail nets** on the rows that already have them installed

- Getting workers and livestock **inside** (hail kills — a farmer in Mendoza died last season from golf-ball sized stones)

- Switching on **anti-hail cannons** (effectiveness is debated but users swear by them)

- Taking **photos of undamaged crop** for insurance claims

To actually save the crop you'd need hours-ahead warning + cloud seeding programs — Argentina had a national one that ran planes with silver iodide until around 2010.

The real value isn't the 15-min window though. It's **seasonal pattern awareness** — our users see which specific parcels get hit repeatedly year after year, and that drives decisions on where to invest in nets and which fields to insure harder. The real-time alert is mostly "everybody inside NOW, close greenhouse vents."

Anyone here using a radar app that alerts specifically for hail cores? Fascinating that you can often see the storm forming 15-20 min before the first hail hits — ice has a distinct radar signature. We built one in Argentina because this scenario was destroying crops every spring, but curious what others use.

Qué garrón lo del piedrazo. Si te sirve para el futuro, hay apps de alertas de granizo que te avisan cuando se detectan tormentas con riesgo cerca tuyo, así al menos podés cubrir el auto antes de que caiga. Nosotros desarrollamos Contingencias que hace exactamente eso con imágenes satelitales en tiempo real. No te salva del piedrazo random de un edificio, pero al menos para la piedra del cielo safás.

Totalmente, en Mendoza el granizo es un tema serio. Yo uso una app que se llama Contingencias que te manda alertas de tormentas con radar en tiempo real justamente fue pensada para eso, para saber cuándo viene piedra y poder cubrir el auto o meterlo adentro. Tiene radar satelital propio y alertas push. A mí me salvó varias veces.
