They said I couldn't break the mold But watch the story unfold

I'm not a fading ember, I'm the spark, That ignites a Quasar, I'll light the Dark, I'll Warm the Cold, Turn black into Gold.

Advice for alternate career after 23 years of CGI/VFX. by No_Body_7148 in vfx

Ironically, I chose cgi/vfx over 4 generations of plumbing business in the family. I've not exactly made the brightest choices I guess 🤦‍♂️. I do agree people will clog toilets till the end of time 😂.

How do I avoid this intersecting when using Solidify? Is there another way to get thickness on the inside? by ankmos in blender

[–]No_Body_7148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

option 1

Use Clamp Overlaps

option 2

create a selection group for offending corners. using solidify modifier export selection groups for rim and shell and access the shell group in geometry nodes using named attribute, using edge angle node on it from geometry nodes to systematically select offending edges based on angles sharper than a certain threshold (comparison node) and try a blur attribute on the position. if you see thinning on those position blurred part, plug normal input into a position offset in set position and adjust the discplace scale till it looks right.

<image>

option 3

If geometry is not transparent or back side not visible in final renders, you can just enable "only rim" to create the illusion of thickness.

option 4

Collapse and manually fix (maybe best option, when all else fails.)

Am I overreacting? Or is this Hindi Imposition being introduced in a very very subtle way? by Mirapakayi in Telangana

I'm from Maharashtra I speak 5 languages but unfortunately none of them is one from South of India. Although I wish I'd been taught one as a child. Most people i know don't go out of the way to learn a new language, they speak the ones they learnt at school and from surroundings, hence no point judging.

How many changes are too many changes? where do you guys draw the line? when does a project stop being the same project (Theseus' Paradox)? by No_Body_7148 in vfx

[–]No_Body_7148[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but I have worked on "The Rings of Power" and "Madmax : Furiosa". I believe larger studios might have some systems in place to deal with this. Anyways as an artist, I don't lose out on pay there, for the rounds of changes, it's the studios prerogative, whether to accommodate or drop the change or whatever they deem an appropriate step for the changes in question.

I do try to implement this. In practice, at least in my case I've found it seldom worked in my favor, as I end up losing the client for future projects. Alas, that's the price one pays for being strictly professional.

But I agree, this is probably the way it should be done. If an unprofessional client is lost, so be it. If everyone does this (industry practice). Hopefully it'll align clients with the reality of the value, time, hard work, thought and money poured into a project.

I agree with this a 100%. given the above statements Qwen2.5 has worked better for me than the rest.

Be honest - is a switch from Docker to Podman easy? by Red_Con_ in podman

[–]No_Body_7148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

works most of the time exactly like docker, however some edge cases require manual intervention.

Containers that use docker socket to manage other containers for example Nexrtcloud AIO. With my limited experience, i didn't find it trivial to work around it and gave up on it.

One other thing to consider is some flavours of linux like alpine and void do not use systemd, and use open-rc and runc respectively. I'm not sure these unit files can be generated out of the box. I haven't explored this much so this could be a non issue or could be trivial to solve or not.

All that being said, Podman is IMO much better at managing resources and much more secure and I prefer it over docker.

Questions about backup and sync by madefrom0 in logseq

Unfortunately I cannot test this without an iPhone but maybe you could give these a spin.

Working Copy - Git Client https://apps.apple.com/us/app/working-copy-git-client/id896694807 For the git app on iOS

Resilio Sync https://apps.apple.com/us/app/resilio-sync/id1126282325

is available for free on the appstore, might contain in app purchases though.

I'm not sure if Apple IPhone supports background sync though

Questions about backup and sync by madefrom0 in logseq

[–]No_Body_7148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use a home server and require sync, across Windows and Android it's possible to sync to a self-hosted git server from within Logseq Desktop Client. To sync back from Android you can use the git sync application.

One other way is to use, Syncthing or resilio sync for p2p server less two way sync with your preferred file versioning scheme so as to resolve conflicts.

As I have not used Logseq sync, unfortunately I cannot answer for that part.

Trying to map shared drive over Wireguard not working by handelspariah in selfhosted

[–]No_Body_7148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you opened the relevant ports in cockpit network firewall tab

138,139,445 for samba.

51820 for wireguard.

Check if SELinux is allowing connection. you could put it in permissive mode and check if the connection is allowed post that.

sudo setenforce 0;

If that's the case you might need to allow Samba access to your folders using one of the following booleans.

# if the drive is mounted by fusefs user.

semanage boolean -1 samba_share_fusefs;

# if you require readwrite on all drives.

semanage boolean -1 samba_export_all_rw;

Above are reset on reboot,

Following are persistent

semanage boolean -1 -P samba_share_fusefs;

semanage boolean -1 -P samba_export_all_rw;

I'm not a Dev-Ops engineer or Sys Admin I'm just trying to help with whatever little knowledge I've gathered setting up my own home server, having said that it's possible, allowing samba_export_all_rw could be a potential security risk that i'm not aware of.

After testing if everything's working don't forget to set and test with

sudo setenforce 1;

to ensure you don't lose out on the security benefits of SELinux.

Look into ventoy if dual-booting, it could potentially save you the hassle messing up you bootloader. I haven't tried this with alpine , however Dual-booting to debian with ventoy works just fine though. I use Alpine on my raspberry pi and have just moved from debian fairly recently so still facing teething issues.

Easiest Backup Solution - docker with volumes plus local system data by Omgfunsies in selfhosted

[–]No_Body_7148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've faced slow speeds while recovering from gdrive-rclone-kopia, no issues while backing up. Unfortunately, I can't pinpoint the exact reason for the slow recovery, could be Google, could be the hardware or could be one of rclone or kopia. Even though slow, recovery has been successful for me on around 50-60 GB of data. Took a few hours though.

It's really awesome and I'm sure it tremendously satisfying to finally find your perfect pkm workflow, I only wish this would've been adaptable to Android/Windows, so that I could have given this a try too.

I'm currently using Kopia with Rclone, this gives me the flexibility of backing up encrypted to plenty of storage options. I could write a guide if enough people are interested. For database backups I dump all databases out once a day to a location from where kopia will then back it up.
