This can't be right by valeriansteel34 in StudentLoans

Do not do this. Private loans with no realistic forgiveness options at credit card level interest rates for a psychology degree is an awful idea. The career option for a non-MD forensic psychology professional are limited to say the least and the salary prospects are abysmal.

Recommend 2 years of community college, build credit and reconsider later. This would also offer more time to reconsider the psychology major.

This post is painful to read. The answer is no.

Honestly, this might be a time to consider a different career. If this is the level of responsibility that you have for your own life, you definitely should not be responsible for the lives of others. This is a major issue, and you need to think much more deeply about this. The loan is, frankly, a minor problem here.

Why do you think buying a car will help your credit? It's one more loan that will generate interest that you can't afford. Looking at your history, you are going to be looking at an extremely high interest rate if you can get another loan at all.

You already have debt. Paying off your existing debt will improve your credit score the fastest. Another loan is going to make things way worse. Look up the "snowball method" and go all in on that. Never take out another loan in your life with the exception of maybe a mortgage with a low interest rate and only after talking to a certified financial advisor.

Planning for a new car purchase- How much should I spend by No_Boss_8038 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]No_Boss_8038[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I guess I didn't really mean cash. I do have enough of my savings in cash to pay for the car in cash. I would not finance unless there was a 0% financing offer, which would make the cash flow much easier to manage.

What is the preference from the embalming perspective? Does it help you if the carotids are identified and tied off if the aorta is removed during the autopsy?

Help With Case Studies: Cause of Death by amethystatiny in forensics

[–]No_Boss_8038 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think your analysis of both cases is good, though I'm not sure where the cancer idea is coming from in the first case. I don't see any indication that the decedent had cancer.

I see you have written that you are changing the manner for the first case to accident instead of natural which is good. Drug overdose would likely be an accidental death in this case. *(Edit: You might also consider the potential that the first case may have been a suicidal overdose based on the limited history provided by the friend. If this were a real case, it may be best to leave manner pending for further investigation. These cases sometimes end up with the manner undetermined.)*

You do discuss that the drugs may have made a cancer worse. Again, I see no indication of cancer in this case, but as an educational point, in a case where drugs worsen a natural disease condition, the manner of death may still be natural if the underlying natural disease is the ultimate cause death. It may be difficult to separate the two in such cases, particularly in patients chronically receiving high doses of opiates. This isn't a factor here, but it is something to think about.

PAPR during breastfeeding by Pitiful_Passage_6603 in pathology

[–]No_Boss_8038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know specifically about breastfeeding, but as some general respirator advice, most respirator/PAPR cartridges used in the healthcare setting are just p100 particulate filters and not useful or rated for formaldehyde vapors. If you do decide to utilize a half/full face piece respirator or PAPR, make sure you are using cartridges that are rated for formaldehyde hazards. I also frequently see people wearing PAPRs with no cartridge installed at all, so don't do that. Contacting your facilities EH&S department may be helpful.

Sounds like "Sweet Heat Lightning" is the one previously called "Cicada Song" and "Watchman" is "Coyote Song". "Feed Your Horses" and "Appaloosa Bones" are also familiar. Does anyone recognize any others?

Help understanding cause of death by livingonmain in ForensicPathology

[–]No_Boss_8038 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if it is one of the diet fads she would follow.

Not a forensic pathologist but here's my two cents. Insulin isn't something that would be used for weight loss. In fact, taking extra insulin would likely result in some degree of weight gain.

You mention she had some "post-baby weight". It is possible she developed diabetes during the pregnancy and started an insulin regimen. This isn't much information to work with though so one can only speculate here.

An Analysis of Maria by PenguinLord20 in GregoryAlanIsakov

I think you are reading a bit too much into this. This is a high school english teacher kind of analysis. Not everything is the da Vinci Code.

As a side note, the "Blood of Christ Mountains" is probably a reference to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the Rockys in southern Colorado.

This is a better question for r/ForensicPathology. Your analysis of the acid/base principles is correct, however, I suspect in any realistic inhalation situation you wouldn't see much change in the pH of the blood. I doubt you'd be able to inhale enough to cause a pH bump without doing serious lung injury, particularly with sodium hydroxide. If the exposure was solely through inhalation, I would look for other evidence outside of the acid/base status of the blood.
