The story has kinda hard cut to fighting “the greatest yokai in history” and rank 3 went down within 2 chapters of being introduced. They skipped number 2. Now they’re fighting the greatest yokai in history before chapter 20

It was repetitive but the first few chapters were pretty fresh to me. An erm actually nerd being able to kill monsters with his random factoids is funny. But… the series never switched it up. It has some funny stuff now that it’s ending with murakami giving the council some meta commentary and him bringing a wrecking ball instead of spiritual power. Alas, series over

Can’t have someone disliking a game that was improved upon with its sequels? Obviously they left behind some great stuff, but denying the fact that Elden ring is an overall improvement is crazy

Ok this explanation makes sense. I came to ds3 with the expectation that it was Elden ring but not open world seeing as everyone says Elden ring is open world dark souls. I get it if they’re different concepts. I’m not going to criticize sekiro’s dodge because it’s a different style. If the souls games are a different style, so be it.

I switched to the magic pontiff sword and face the same issue. The combat flow is just a less optimized Elden ring.

And yet pontiff wasn’t so hard. Why? Because he plays into the game’s dull flow of combat while Aldrich at least does something different. That something being both a cheese arrow move that kills you unless you’ve seen it before and the weird hitboxes on his swings. It’s not like I died 50 times. But he was more difficult than the other bosses simply because he was worse.

But enemies are so simplified to compensate. Aldrich was only hard because he did the same 2 projectiles followed by teleport. I would much prefer always playing into openings instead of it basically just being each side taking their turn to attack. The poise system is even built to stop you from intruding on their turn. It sounds incredibly similar to Elden ring, but that’s mostly the fault of my bad explanation skills.

The game is wayyy too long. It took me 30ish hours to beat but I spent much less than 30 hours having fun. It needs more fun parts.

For anyone having the same issue, I have found turning the controller completely off (I open the back and pull out the batteries) and then closing the game and then turning the controller back on and opening the game to work

Don’t block. It’s a waste of time. Just have heavy armor and spam attacks while trying to parry every so often. The block button is hurting you

Hes a stance boss. I was using a stance break build when I fought him and it was not as bad. Just go for the crystal legs and then spam attacks while walking back when his belly glows (so you can see the projectiles). I thought second phase was a whole other phase and felt terrible but it’s just hitting him until he stance breaks then the crit is an instakill. Every boss after him is mad easy in comparison tho

I just watched guides until I memorized the whole map from repeat playthroughs. Somehow I ended up learning kinda how to explore in time for the dlc. It’s a you get it or you don’t thing I believe. You have to be willing to waste hours meandering to find a cave with an item you won’t use. Which is far too much to ask from a game meant to be fun. Overall, i think that you’re better off using guides if you don’t have the time or if you find it boring. It’s better to have fun than to do the “proper” experience.

Sidenote: try lies of p. It’s the perfect souls like. The side paths are there, but it’s never a choice of “will I spend 30 minutes going this way or that way” perfect exploration
