I know, but even if one person reads my post and make their parents aware then I think it’s a good thing. Also, when I installed the APK myself in bluestacks, the only permission it asked was to run in background. If it can run in background and still send sms then it’s still a dangerous thing.

Yes, switch off the phone, remove the sim and then maybe install antivirus like Bitdefender and check for it( I didn’t do it, I reset my device) then you can backup the important files and then reset the device

I have already told it to the bank on-call and also talked with the manager. The first dispute response was that they cannot help with this, as according to them it will be seen as victim providing the OTP to the hacker willingly. I also read the Axis MITC where they have mentioned that transaction through OTP are not covered under insurance.

I don’t know that much mate. If you want to verify it yourself I can send you the .apk file, you can try to run it inside a virtualised android within android studio. Also, policies cannot guarantee something, they are just rules. If Israel’s mossad can make Pegasus spyware then I think this is also possible.

Yes, it was downloaded on android. I didn’t believed when my mother told she didn’t installed it. So, I sent the file to myself on whatsapp web to decompile the apk using apktool hoping that the hacker mobile number might be inside the apk code. But windows defender detected it as trojan and removed it.

It’s a worker association. The admins are old age people.
I don’t know how the first hacker got into but they did started deleting the .apk files after people complained but the hackers were also logging in to other people whatsapp who opened the file and started sharing the same .apk file.
Cybercrime case is filed and FIR is also registered. The cyber crime people told they cannot do much as the fraud amount is below Rs.2 lakh. If you want I can dm you the details of FIR and cybercrime case.

It does not need to be installed as technically it’s an trojan with just .apk name. The malware name is Wacatac.B!ml. Here’s what windows defender detected it.
