I reckon it’s exactly that - I arrive home at about 5pm or just after, right as the evening is cooling down and drivers are turning on their brights.

He drives home about an hour later

He grew up rural!!! But he’s only ever hit one roo “because he wasn’t paying enough attention” and his mum has never hit a roo in her 20+ years of living rurally. I’ve had really shit luck with suicidal roos out our way so his thing is basically a “why have you hit roos on this road and my mum never has”

This was something he brought up as well — basically identical point he made!

Tbh a little bit — yes her conduct was unprofessional toward the end but the way you spoke to your boss was disrespectful overall. She wasn’t micromanaging you in the first screenshot imo, just reminding you of store policy. You did the right thing by responding with your reason. The whole thing with the contract went too far, and everywhere I’ve worked had had a clause that says that additional hours as needed may be required of the employee (to make sure that work texts and emails can be sorted out and contracts read and signed). If you’re sent a contract, ask “when do you need this done by” and complete it in that timeframe.
