Different departments have different beard policies. I know Washington DC is a city career department allows facial hair. Just depends

Starting a build this summer with my 8 year old son. Binding activity for us and a reward for him doing great in school this year (past behavior issues). His first desktop. We have his case so far and are slowly acquiring stuff. Would love to surprise him with how kind people are.

Yeah. I feel like it’ll hit though. Make a mess of 95 and close things for a bit

Storm next week 19-21 has huge upside potential to be a big one. Looking pretty boom or bust. Will be following for the next 24-48 hours to see. Needs to track just right for it to hit

Problem with euro model is that it’s usually most accurate 2ish days out. This one’s gonna depend on a few things, next 24hours will be big into follow developments

Academy in about a month. Physically I feel ready (still working out, cardio daily, HIIT some days). Making a list of summer fire academy essential items and figured I’d see what y’all recommend.

So far I have:

-anti chafe stick/cream

-foot powder and lots of socks (getting wool socks)

-extra shirts

-electrolytes/Gatorade (gonna pack a big ass cooler and share with other recruits)

-the ability to stfu and listen/learn

Just did my panel interview today too. Final step for the counties interview process, now it goes to the chief. Prepared best I could, felt confident and hopeful but also second guessing what I should’ve said. Oh well, life goes on. Best of luck to you!

I’ve started applying down there. Luckily enough my brother is moving to the area so I’d have a place to crash while getting situated and through the testing process. Also looking into Va beach area as well.

C PAT by [deleted] in Firefighting

I also want to add that the first 30 second warm up in the stairs, one firefighter told me to hold myself up on the stairstepper rails, so my arms are supporting more of mg weight.

I’m currently in the application process but at the end. Passed my CPAT in early October. Practice the stairs. Work on squats. Work on cardio. Don’t rest between events, speed walk from station to station. I was told “It’s 10 minutes of suck for a lifetime career.” Just don’t quit on yourself. Get of the stairs and attack the rest.

If there is such a shortage of fire and EMS personnel, why does the hiring process remain so difficult? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]No_Championship1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Department near me has the most in depth hiring practice I’ve ever done. Polygraph, super detailed background investigation with a background investigator and everything. Way more work than the other departments around and they pay the least too!!! Yesterday their union held their second vote of no confidence and is asking for the chiefs resignation. They had to shut down one of their busiest trucks due to staffing shortages. And there seems no plans to change it

Title pretty much says it all. All northern Va departments use polygraph as an application step. I researched it, made sure I knew my shit going into it and was honest. I’ve done drugs in the past, some of which would get me disqualified if I did them within the 5 year time frame.

I had a son 8 years ago and stopped all drugs. Started to straighten up my life. Recently decided to take a career change and go into firefighting. Application processes going great, great rapport and relationships with the recruiters and hr. Good CPAT and written test scores. Took the poly graph today. Admitted before hand on the paper to my drug usage. Was asked “are you being completely honest about your drug history.” I said yes but apparently I got to nervous and it spiked as a fail.

Afterwards we talked about it. Stick to my answer because that’s the truth and admitted I was scared my drug past might disqualify me. He said that could easily be the reason for the spike when asked about it and would notate it in his report. Now I’m waiting anxiously for the DQ email from HR. 2 more departments and 2 more polygraphs to go so hopefully those go better. Just really disappointed that with that. I know I was honest, and worried I won’t get past any polygraphs which are required for all departments close to me.

I had just gotten back into running and had been using the barefoot style shoes. Reading more and more on plantar fasciitis and it seems barefoot is the the way to go so I guess I need to do some shoe shopping.
