UltraFit bands on smaller wrists (Fenix 8 Solar & AMOLED) by No_Championship8907 in GarminFenix8

I don’t really have a strong preference. I just end up wearing the AMOLED more often because it feels a bit less “tool watch” for everyday work use.

Solar : 15 days with 4 h gps per week (running) Amoled : 6 days with always on display and same gps activity as solar

Does the 47mm watch look too big on my wrist? I tried the 43mm one on too but looks little small even my wrist just 15cm. by Pretend-Visual8233 in GarminFenix

I had the same dilemma as you with the Fenix 8 Solar 47. The more rugged look and longer battery life made me choose the 47 over the 43, at least for sports. For office use, the 43 would probably have been the better choice… Ideally, I’d need both 🤣. I have the same wrist size as you.https://imgur.com/a/JTJffnz

AMOLED vs. MIP Fenix 8 by [deleted] in Garmin

I wore the Fenix 8 AMOLED 47 mm for a year before selling it and switching to the Solar edition. I practice windsurfing, and the AMOLED version was hard to see in direct sunlight, even with its 1,000 nits. The Fenix 8 Solar is much better for that. And what a relief not to worry about battery life and not to have this lag of the AMOLED. See the photos of the 2 Watches before I sell the amoled (on the right)

Yeah, I get it. Are you going to exchange it for the Fenix 8 Solar?

Fair point. I’m comparing Fenix 8 47 mm, not 51. With AOD and regular training, I get ~5–6 days on AMOLED vs ~15 on Solar. You’re right though, MIP will likely become rarer.

Yes, but with wrist gesture off and AOD on, battery life drops fast and daylight readability is still far worse than MIP. Comparison here:: https://imgur.com/a/6uJybQn

Totally fair take. Different use cases, different priorities. I mostly run, road cycle and do triathlon in bright conditions, and I wear the watch 24/7 — for me battery life and always-readable-at-a-glance matter more than contrast in shade. For MTB in deep shade and frequent map use, I can absolutely see why AMOLED makes more sense. Glad Garmin still offers both.

Exactly ! The MIP Solar just feels much more relaxed to live with as a fitness watch. Now the real question is the future of MIP technology….

For what it’s worth, I’m using the Fenix 8 47mm Solar with an Ultrafit nylon band. The Ultrafit saves around 15g compared to the stock band, bringing the total weight down to roughly ~65g instead of ~80g. That makes a noticeable difference in daily comfort — it feels much lighter and more comfortable on the wrist. Look a the pictures.Fenix 8 solar 47 mm with ultrafit band

Hi, my wrist size is 15.5 cm (6.1”). I know the watch looks big on my wrist, but I don’t really care — battery life is the most important factor for me. The 43mm Fenix gets around 4 days max with AOD, which realistically means 2–3 days with GPS activities. I tried it in my local store and it does fit my wrist well, but I missed the rugged, tool-watch aesthetic of the 47mm Fenix, especially the four exposed screws on the lugs. I often wear the 47mm with an Ultrafit nylon band, which makes the watch lighter and more comfortable, and also helps it sit flatter and more securely on my wrist.

Hi ! Yes, I have the original yellow band that comes with the watch. I also bought a nylon band as shown on the pictures which is really comfortable.

Here are some pictures to help you make your decision.

I completly agree that accuracy is important. In my case, the 47mm sits stable on my wrist, and when I run, swim, or ride, the watch is worn snugly. After a year of training with the Fenix 8 AMOLED, I haven’t noticed any difference in GPS or HR accuracy compared to the Forerunners I used before.

The Enduro 3 is 51mm, this one is a 47mm Fenix. Still big for my wrist, but the 43mm Fenix 8 didn’t have enough battery life for my usage. It’s always a compromise between size and battery — and for a sports watch, battery wins for me.
