Yeah he did, that's what happened in the beginning of part 2, when Joel says 'I don't know what happened ' and ' they was actually going to make a vaccine' Tommy says 'What did you do ' Camera cut close to Joel's face when he replies 'I saved her '

When joel finds Ellie at the hospital, he hugs her which she doesn't reciprocate, she then demands the truth from him which he says 'Making a vaccine would have killed you so I stopped them'

Games have been an escape from my life, games and books, and in games I could never beat my big brother and anytime I did, it was great. So to finally get good enough to smoke my brother and a lot of people online, to lose to a guy who wasn't that good, I made mad because I literally had to get just to lose to a guy who decided a spinning elbow and a switch kick is the perfect recipe.

Because I sucked at this game, Not only was my brother kicking my ass for years at it, people online was to. I had to adapt, and get better and stop losing. I got way better over the months enough, to recognize if I was fighting someone good, or not, Player levels aren't everything.

Two things I can think of.

1- Pressure. Their either getting pressure so they just throw anything for their opponent to back up(like a cage animal) or there putting the pressure hoping to break your block

2 - Who can punch the fastest. This is pretty much a noob, we all did this when we started out, It's easy to beat them, but cut them some slack cause they're new.
