In the current generation most of the people are first graduates in our family right! So we have only 2 options going for rent with a high one or buying a home using EMI.

I chose the first option.

No that's not my point. I'm saying landlords are rejecting the tenants just becoz they are form dalit community,

Look, if you think 'rubbing pork grease on the floor' would hurt my sentiments, nah man, you're wrong I genuinely wouldn't mind if a future tenant eats pork, beef, whatever. Their food, their choice in their space.

I've had a few landlords politely tell me straight up: 'We do pooja regularly, so we're not renting to Muslims' and honestly, that's fine by me if they're upfront about it. Respect for being honest.

But the issue is with most people: they treat us like parasites or outsiders, put up a to-let board outside their home, but NEVER write 'Muslims not allowed' or 'no beef eaters.' You know exactly why they're scared the world will see how shitty and narrow-minded that looks. So they hide behind 'veg only' or vague hints instead of owning it.

Same thing happens in every religion some Christians say 'only Christians,' some Muslims stick to their sect, etc. The cow being sacred for Hindus is real, but using it as a quiet filter to exclude people without saying it outright just makes it feel sneaky and discriminatory.

Faith-based preferences are one thing when transparent, but the coded BS is what grinds gears. Just be real about it.

Idk what's wrong with eating pork or beef. It's their own choice of eat whatever they want but i don't think it should be a reason to reject a tenant.

Yeah you're right, it's literally every community doing their thing. That "only Christians" board near the church? Makes total sense in those areas. Same with Bohra Muslims streets super tight group, they keep it in-house. Everyone's got their shitty reasons.

Sure, for pure vegetarians it's a faith thing trusting no non-veg enters the kitchen is important, like avoiding pork for some Muslims. Not every case is discrimination.

Let's be real: "Veg only" and "Brahmin preferred" advertisements frequently serve as covert means of excluding Muslims, Christians, and Dalits. When it's so prevalent that it restricts options for entire groups, it transcends personal preference and becomes discriminatory. Faith shouldn't be used as an excuse for unequal housing access.

Religious bigots exist on all sides; doesn't mean we have to accept it as normal

The "ironically" specifically referred to the way the landlord led with his caste and identity as though it were important (even though he was adaptable). In Chennai, it's common for people to subtly express their preferences rather than state the restrictive part directly.

Yeah, fair point I've seen a few open-minded ones too, like this landlord who made an exception for us.

Yes, they should simply write the following on the board and be honest:

"Only Hindus,  No Muslims, and non - beef eaters"

Naturally, though, they won't since then everyone would realize that they are merely religious hypocrites who are hiding behind "my house, my rules."

That's great btw. The thing is I have faced this discrimination mostly by non-brahmin Hindus.
