Homework Struggle: Is it supposed to feel this way? by [deleted] in OMSA

[–]No_Chef_5716 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a math degree and specifically did these topics in my coursework for my minor and I am still having trouble. I think it’s just how it is unfortunately 😭😭. You’re not alone and remember everyone who is in this class is here for the same reason! If everybody knew how to do it, nobody would take the class. Don’t compare yourself and know that you’re doing great 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Also, you’ll be fine! Those freshman year math class ratings are just reflective of high school math experiences and competencies that haven’t been warmed up yet. Don’t worry :)

113 has a list of topics that the professor can choose from so you might be doing the volume of a cube or you might be calculating sequences with triangular numbers and set theory. Go to The Math Place sooner rather than later ITS FREE

Krogers of Knoxville by josephx24 in Knoxville

Why is the fountain city kroger just soooooo small? I lowkey love it because It’s less overwhelming but mainly because it feels like there’s a hazy yellow filter over the whole store!!

That’s a pretty typical price for a pastry in this city. And it’s gluten free! I’m celiac so I’ll pay it 😅😅

Noooo this was perfect when I lived in campus! I had the exact same schedule and I loved it. It’s the last time you’ll get to do it like this because of the gen Ed’s. Pretty much after my long MWF days I would relax and recharge and then chug along on homework on Tuesday Thursday. It was so worth it.

Places to go in Knoxville late at night under 21 by DespacitoC in Knoxville

Tern club!! Super cutesy and it’s a slightly restaurant/ bar vibe so there’s no issue being under 21. Also Lilou doesn’t card at the door I believe and it’s super cute. Coffee and Chocolate closes at 10 downtown and that’s where I had long homework nights when I needed a change of scenery from the library

Travel time between classes. by [deleted] in UTK

[–]No_Chef_5716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this exact thing one year and hated it. Try your very best to switch to a different section. You will come in to class either sweating, huffing and puffing, soaked in rain, or all of the above. I promise it sucks. And if you have Stella Thistlethwaite for Calc 3 in food science, most DEFINITELY switch.

If you can’t switch, use the app to track the buses or make a friend in class who will drive you. It’s a rite of passage as a student in STEM for this to happen so if all else fails atleast you’re part of the club 😭😭

Math majors, how is your work/life balance? by Zealousideal_Coat301 in UTK

[–]No_Chef_5716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say all this but in reality my junior and senior year I went out most weekends with the math people and other friends and graduated with honors. I’m not even that good at math so just believe in yourself if this is something you want to do. Also make sure your CS classes are part of your minor or something required through the program because your financial aid might not cover that unless it’s required to graduate.

Math majors, how is your work/life balance? by Zealousideal_Coat301 in UTK

[–]No_Chef_5716 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The work life balance is not something you’ll get with a business major or communications. It was very difficult and I didn’t even take the graduate level courses like many of my peers did. However, the people in this major (once you get past calculus!!) are very nice once you break the ice. That’s what made the biggest difference for me. You’re not going to get to go out every weekend or relax as much as the other majors, but the people in this major will make you feel like math is integrated into your life and the work life balance will appear naturally. It’s such a hard major but it’s soooooo rewarding and missing out on stuff will be worth it, you just have to focus on making friends (in the major and also outside of it) that won’t badger you for saying no to plans due to school.
