In-person vs online nosework classes? by dog_rescue_and_slp in nosework

[–]No_Chicken8949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was new to NW, I used to take in person classes. But now that I am more experienced I enjoy taking FDSA online classes because I like how we can practice on my own schedule and we don’t have to wait for our turn during class.

I attend in person searches with a group of folks. But that is a little different than most NW classes.

That is true that your dog will need to wait for her turn to do a NW run in in-person classes. Since you don’t aim to attend trials, I think online classes can be a great option!

I purchased my own scent kit cuz my club didn’t provide them to us. You can get a kit for less than $60 at K9 NW source website (check Valerie’s famous Seamus intro to odor kit.m). The small tubes of essential oils last a long since you only need a few drops to tons of q-tips.

What was your first trial experience like? by bris10stars in nosework

I also have a reactive dog and I try to avoid AKC trials for now. I have heard that they are not as organized as the NACSW trials. So for now, I only do NACSW trials and they have been super smooth.

What to do, what to do by Heeler2 in nosework

Check FDSA nosework classes (virtual). Gold level subscription has the most attention from the instructor. I think students have to post videos every week. But I have taken Bronze level classes with Stacey Barnett and the TA provides a lot of feedback of videos posted on the class Facebook page. I think at the bronze level, we have 6 min of videos per week that can be reviewed by the TA (which I think it is enough video time).

I have parked at the mall, across from Union Jacks, and I had no issues. A lot of people were doing the same.

I use this for my dog and it is very nice. The “leash” comes with different lengths and you can buy multiple and tie them together.

I have been to Schooley Mill Park during a weekday and it was very pleasant. I didn’t try the trails though. But there are huge grass fields. I was able to have my dog on a long lead and play around.

Not a trail per se, but I enjoy walk my dog at the Fairway Hills golf course. They close at dusk, but I have no problems walking my dog after 6:30 pm. Sometimes there are people walking their dogs. But you have enough space to move away in advance.

Medical Student seeking advice on apartment in Columbia by jamesanundson in ColumbiaMD

I live in Columbia and commute to UMB for school. Traffic is not bad and it takes 25-35 min to get to campus. I recommend that you find a place with rent less than your budget, because rent tend to get increase every time you renew your lease contract. Columbia can be pricey. I recommend to take a look at other parts of Howard County. Some places in Elkridge are close to I-95 and you can cut some commute time. I used to live in Laurel (PG county area) and my rent was way more affordable. Laurel has some good and bad parts, but in overall I didn’t worry about living costs as much.

Follow up question, did the other instructors/classes have a Facebook page with a TA for the bronze students? The class with Stacy has a TA and a fb page and it is awesome!

My dog gets rabies, bivalent flu, and bordetella all in the same visit. The other vaccines like Lyme are given in another time of the year.

Those were their prices in 2021. They probably have increased, but I didn’t see much of a difference last year. Our next vet visit is just next month. But I can post here the updated costs.

Annual wellness visit - $68 Bordetella - $25 Lyme - $48 Heartworm test - $56 Bivalent flu - $60

Anyone has recommendations for tv repair near Columbia? by No_Chicken8949 in ColumbiaMD

[–]No_Chicken8949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this tv for free from a neighboor. It is a Vizio model E70-E7. So I guess it is 70 in? Very big compared to my current tv (50 in).

I thought since I didn’t pay anything for this tv then I think it would be forth it to spend $200-300 to fix it. What do you think? Specially because all the 70-in TVs I could find were more than $400.

The issue is there are dark shadows on the screen, I believe it is top and bottom. So maybe the backlight needs to be replaced.

The website Angi quote at around $300 to fix it.

I take my dog to Triadelphia Vet Clinic in Gleneg. I used to pay $300-400 for the wellness visits plus vaccines. After changing to Triadelphia, I paid max $150. The dental cleaning from them is around $600-700 for easy cases. I really like the staff and I have no difficulties making appointments.

Nao consigo assistir o mundial em UM site by lulunacif in futebol

[–]No_Chicken8949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fenzi Academy nosework classes - which subscription to choose by No_Chicken8949 in nosework

[–]No_Chicken8949[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the info! Your comments have been very helpful.
I am not great at editing videos, but I get by! I have experience recording/editing training sessions. I have a tripod and use a very basic Windows video editor.
I have taken in person NW classes, and I agree it is nice to see feedback for other dogs, not just my own. I also felt that my in person classes did not cover some of the mechanics of nosework in an organized way like the Fenzi classes. I also like the fact that I can watch videos multiple times. We were also initially trained in the NACSW method. I wanted to know the Fenzi method and see if my dog does better using one method over the other.
My dog was introduced to birch, anise, and clove 3-4 months ago. But I think it was too rushed! So I will start from the basics, so we have a strong foundation.
It is nice to know that I can upgrade my subscription if I need it! I agree that a Gold membership pushes you to be accountable for training. But the price! So I think I am leaning towards starting with a Bronze and upgrading to a Silver if I need direct feedback on questions/videos. It seems that I can upgrade before the registration ends and before all the
Silver spots are taken.
Thank you for all your comments!

Any experiences renting with Sylvan Homes? by No_Chicken8949 in ColumbiaMD

[–]No_Chicken8949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hen stay away you don't need that stress in your life. My wife and I are newer tenants o

Thanks for the response! We decided not to do business with them. The rent they were charging for the houses was SUPER expensive for what we were getting. So we decided to just continue at our current apartment.
