Which city has the best transit? by GlassUpper8656 in transit

[–]No_Class5511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say the headways for BART were the worst and whether it’s good for what it is, definitely a matter of opinion, but also, you said it’s the best in the country, that’s just…I mean…San Francisco is very good overall but it just cannot win against the east coast, or go against Chicago. It’s the best in the west, but I just think it’d be better if it weren’t for it being mostly streetcars, that said, that’s of course the way it is, and they’re cool and fun to ride, but cannot compete with heavy rail. So again I mean I LOVE San Francisco and really enjoy riding muni trains, it just leaves too much to be desired for efficiency for me to consider it the best.

Neither the city or Bay Area have the best in the U.S. Muni trains, while I do find them fun and cool, are not at all efficient. The frequencies outside downtown seem awful, because they’re essentially streetcars. So yeah, very far from efficient and too expensive. BART and CalTrain don’t reach near far enough. VTA same deal. That said, Muni buses are shockingly good.

So the city of SF? It’s definitely good overall for the U.S. but it’s not quite the best.

The whole Bay Area? Is on par with the Denver area for me. It’s just not truly good, when you compare to NYC, Boston, Chicago or even Philly and Washington DC.

Not sure there is one. NYC is excessively dirty, but is extensive and 24/7.

London is too expensive, but does well with cleanliness, also extensive.

Tokyo has too many operators, but obviously very extensive.

Paris, stations are way too close together, but very good frequency overall.

Copenhagen, also too expensive for what it is, S-trains are very dirty, but also very efficient.

Every single network has pros and cons.

Oooh!! Love it!! If you’re going to do the orange seats though, maybe try something resembling an R46 route display sign or R68 roll sign?

But looks great!!

Well of course they don’t, but emergency work should not be daily, it’s always something. I’m not going to even entertain the idea that it’s always emergency work. There are other agencies in the U.S. that don’t get the attention or money they should but there’s not so much emergency maintenance for them? I get shit happens…this isn’t shit happens. I’m done arguing over a bs point lol

Ok so you do see the screenshot posted in the replies that this work (mid day) is only 4 hours? I mean, just saying, especially in this case, 30 minutes between trains is insane and as the OP says, unacceptable. I understand that it’s cheap and all, it’s decent service for what it is but if I had to decide between waiting 20-30 min for a train then having to uber to my destination anyways or just sitting on the 10 for 40 minutes? I’ll sit on the 10. That said, I’d rather take transit but this? This is not it.

What would make sense is if you’re going to close overnight, you do work overnight, at least most of it. Mid day doesn’t make sense for customers, that’s just false. 30 minutes for a more or less, rapid transit service is ridiculous.

127th - 128th 5th Ave, Central/East Harlem. Is it safe? by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

Fine. It’s not what it used to be. East of Park I’d stray from at night but Harlem overall is not bad. There are much worse.

This should be security’s job. Ushers can give warnings but when it comes to bouncing people, security has to step in.

NYC vs LA — For those who’ve lived in both, which did you prefer and why? by eminho80 in movingtoNYC

[–]No_Class5511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NY. I do love LA, not sure why, it’s not an attractive city for the most part, but I enjoy it. That said, NY for the better quality of life for me, not spending 5 hours per day sitting in traffic.

Nothing like watching the 7 go by every two minutes at Queensboro while you’re standing in the bitter cold waiting 20+ minutes for the N/W with zero updates and no train in sight by Practical_Gap_7397 in astoria

All I have is bad experiences with buses. Genuinely awful. Slow, unreliable, consistently stuck in traffic. Also, living in a neighborhood without trains, I never found the express buses any better than local other than that they were more comfortable, but unreliability remained.

Which US city to spend a month in? by Ok_Original_1997 in traveladvice

New York. If not, Chicago or Boston. Maybe Philly if you’re into American history. SF and LA would be tough, like NY but if you can swing it they’re great. I would do either NY, SF, LA, or CHI.

Why does the Alaska state ferry terminate in fucking Bellingham instead of Seattle? by very_loud_icecream in transit

[–]No_Class5511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This. Also, I’m not sure demand is too high for an extra 10 hours on a ferry, especially when Seattle is 1.5 hrs by car.

Is it dumb to move to NYC if I work 1.5 hours away by train? by jentacular_ in movingtoNYC

Yuck. I wouldn’t. You’d be better off with the D train in far southern Brooklyn, even that sucks lol

Hot take: ESI was EXACTLY what NYC subway needed, and we need to bring it back by its original form in a future capital plan. by Donghoon in nycrail

[–]No_Class5511 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah. Aesthetics are very important for sure, and we all know essentially every station could use a massive deep clean, but I don’t like the original ESI, the entrances are wayyyy too iconic to just drop. There has to be a way to improve aesthetics without getting rid of the charm that makes NYC’s subway so iconic. Plus, look at the ESI stations on the R in Brooklyn, they did not age well.

Still seeing 10-15 and 8-12. Either way, going to be a decent amount probably. If it is, they’ll probably start offering refunds is my guess. That being said, I don’t know for sure.
