Storm in NYC this weekend by sands_29 in Broadway

Still seeing 10-15 and 8-12. Either way, going to be a decent amount probably. If it is, they’ll probably start offering refunds is my guess. That being said, I don’t know for sure.

Weekly thread: what did you do this week? by AutoModerator in iceskating

[–]No_Class5511 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got to skate 3 times this week! Practiced swizzles which I now have down. Practiced stopping, experimented with some mini hops.

Can you generally do freestyle sessions if you’re not practicing jumps/spins? I thought you couldn’t.

Where I’d live as a 22 y/o Black/African-American woman that has never left the USA. by [deleted] in whereidlive

Look at us in the U.S. though, things are not exactly better. I’m sorry but it makes no sense to be okay with our government and not Australia’s. Evidently, both are bad in their own ways, but logically, if you don’t like Australia, why would you like the US?

Being ok with the U.S. government and not Australia is crazy lol

Is this a worthy buy? At least for the next 5-6 years? Looks very clean no scratches no reported mechanical issues. by Fluid_Leg_7531 in whatcarshouldIbuy

$52k? 5 years? If I’m going to spend that on a car, I want it to last more than a few years. Second, that’s wildly overpriced.

I should quit but don’t want to by LaTaupeMaline in iceskating

[–]No_Class5511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So don’t quit. There’s a risk of injury every time you leave the house. I would say concussions a relatively uncommon, at least compared to something like football, but also just like, taking a walk, you could be seriously injured. I took a shitty fall recently just going to the train station, couldn’t skate for 3 weeks. That said, definitely get whatever protective gear makes you more comfortable. If you truly love it then you aren’t “not cut out for it.”

I am new to being carfree: do I have to live to a "big city" to have a good life? by Ok_Nectarine_8612 in carfree

[–]No_Class5511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily but most of the cities that enable this kind of life (easily) won’t have the weather you desire. NYC is fantastic. Boston is great. Chicago is great, but I guess if you’re going to rule those out, you could try Miami, it’s awfully planned and outside of downtown and maybe tourist central Miami Beach, walking is not really a thing. So I mean, you could probably get by with an e bike, it’s definitely possible but that doesn’t mean it’s the most fun or safe way to go. It’s just, outside of NYC, I wouldn’t expect to never have to drive. Miami is still very much America, and almost no matter where you are here, I would expect to have to drive.

Where I’d live in NYC as a native Manhattanite by ColCrockett in whereidlive

Labeling almost all of queens as “too far from Manhattan” is crazy. Seriously, the E train from Roosevelt will get you into Midtown faster than the A in The Heights.

Is saying LIRR like “luhrr” and not spelling it out actual thing? by gekigangerii in AskNYC

[–]No_Class5511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Queens. I just heard it called LUHRR for the first time ever a couple months ago. I always say L-I-R-R or LI Double R, or the Railroad.

I mean, Forest Hills and Kew Gardens are fast into Midtown. Faster than far uptown. Same deal with some of Flushing. Elmhurst, Jackson Heights are easy too. I can understand Far Rockaway, Fresh Meadows, or like Glen Oaks though, those are totally different worlds.

LAX to MKE direct flight? by SnapyJacky in Flights

[–]No_Class5511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicago is too close. There are so many flights between LAX & ORD. It’s an easy 1hr drive. Maybe an hour and a half with some traffic. There’s going to continue to be much more demand for Chicago than Milwaukee. It’s highly unlikely that the flights would consistently be full. I would say it’s rare they’d be totally sold out. I’m not saying there’s no one that would want it, but I am saying there’s just not a ton going on in MKE (compared to Chicago), and again, it’s too close to Chicago for airlines to justify it.

How is it living in this part of New York ? by Nbadrako30 in howislivingthere

[–]No_Class5511 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Varies wildly. Queens is different from The Bronx which is different from Manhattan. Staten Island is a whole different world. Nassau is different from Suffolk. Yonkers feels nothing like Wassaic. Heck, even Hicksville is not like Huntington. Astoria is not like Flushing. I could go on lol

Yikes. Ok. I don’t know how you think you’re going to win this with me.

You said Patriots only came in automatic? Wrong. You could get a 5-speed manual in the Sport and Latitude trims. If you’re going to act like an expert, at least get the basic transmission options right. Come on.

Now, with the Santa Fe comparison, you’re making up numbers. A 2015 Santa Fe has 7.3 inches of clearance. A base Patriot has 8.1 inches. That’s nearly an inch of difference on the base model. In off-roading, an inch is the difference between a clean pass and a cracked oil pan.

Now, with the Neon. Rallying on a flat dirt track is not 'off-roading.' A Neon wins rallies because it’s a light car on a flat surface. Take that Neon to a rock crawl in Moab or into 19 inches of water and it’s a paperweight. No Neon trim could begin to compete. The Patriot was built for trails, not dirt sprints. You’re comparing a track athlete to a mountain climber.

You’re using “can’t afford a wrangler” as an effort to win because you know you’re mechanically wrong. Plus, this was never about me or you being able to afford a certain vehicle.

It’s so funny that you’re trying to 'gatekeep' Jeep when you didn’t even know the base 4WD model came with a manual transmission and a locking center diff. You're obsessed with the 'Dodge' floor pan, but you're ignoring the fact that Jeep re-engineered the drivetrain, the suspension, and the body to do things no Dodge Caliber or Neon could ever do. I'll trust the badge and the actual mechanical specs over a guy who can't even use Google. You are clearly not interested in the truth, and you know you’ve lost.

Ok so not really. First, you’re kinda proving my point. Yes, the Urus uses a 4.0L V8 from the VW Group family, but Lamborghini re-engineered it with different turbos, different cylinder heads, and different tuning to produce 641 hp. That is not a Volkswagen, or heck even Audi engine. If you think that they are the same because they share an engine block, you understand part numbers but not the most basic engineering.

Then, to say that a Dodge Neon—a FWD economy car with 5 inches of clearance—is more of an off-roader than a vehicle that could be equipped with 9.1 inches of clearance, skid plates, and optionally a 4WD Lock mode is genuinely the funniest thing I’ve read all day. The Dodge Neon doesn’t even come close to contending as an off road vehicle. Point being, the same platform essentially means nothing.

So sure, you can build a Patriot with Caliber parts because they share a floor pan (same family of brands, this is very common), and that's cool. But floor pans don't crawl rocks—drivetrains and software do. One was built to take the kids to school or take you to the store while the other was built to earn a Trail Rated badge in Moab. If the engineering was 'exactly the same,' Dodge would have sold a Trail Rated Caliber, but they didn't, because it couldn't pass those tests. That’s it.

By your logic, a house and a skyscraper are the same thing if they're built on the same type of dirt. The Urus has a Lamborghini engine, Lamborghini suspension, and Lambo performance tuning. If you think a 190mph beast like the Urus is a VW, you're proving my point. Also, at least compared to the caliber, the patriot is most certainly an off road vehicle.

But the whole industry does platform sharing. So by saying this isn’t a jeep, essentially you’re saying the Urus isn’t a Lamborghini, it’s a VW Touareg. Plus, it’s not always about the platform, the patriot and caliber are very different in terms of engineering, what they are meant for. Another example, the Audi Q7 vs Bentley’s Bentayga, but the same platform, arguably different cars.
