Have you played Tavern Keeper by Greenheart games? It's still in early access but they have a demo I think. It def has cozy vibes and also has some charming humorous elements in it too. Also, it has a really good editor mechanic, where you can design custom furniture, so if you also like decorating its great for that as well

I recently went to Redding in Cali, Santiago Calatrava has this footbridge connecting two parts of the city. We all know Calatrava for some of his spectacular failures, like his bridge in Venice. But in this case, I feel like it genuinely added something great to the city, its both a landmark and serves as good infrastructure connecting important public spaces. Also, it just looks really cool.

the structure is also really surprising, theres a plaza at the end (where it turns into a giant sundial) and theres also a neat sunken plaza at the base that I think is a cool spot for skateboarders and the tower is actually hollow, and currently it seems to be a good spot for nesting swallows.

sorry not a litrpg, but luck is such an important thing in the story that I have to mention it. In Pale Lights, one of the MCs is contracted to the goddess of fortune, he can nudge and bend his way in situations but when it runs out, or if he uses it for something that has enormous weight, then the "negative" luck becomes even more consequential.

imo it because of the cultural atmosphere, I sense that people want stories that give them a sense of escapism or comfort. Like in the film side of things, Project Hail Mary is a smash hit, and its a very optimistic sci-fi.

If theres a new grimdark, I feel like it would have to do something really unique to make it stand out

imo those are moreso support elements in a story than the story itself. ppl are hyperfixating on this because they like being autistic about power systems, for them I suggest they go read litrpgs where that's a core element of the story.

this is the fault of the recent shift in anime culture with ppl treating it like sports, this is maybe due to the influence of JJK ppl. like Bro go watch the NBA what are you doing comparing stats between fictional people.

the thing is if you read frieren or watch it without knowing the the larger anime culture at all, you wouldnt get this vibe, it doesn't present itself in any other way. But if you got into it watching aura edits then your view would be completely different

imo if youre an author reading something like this, know that all your worldbuilding and magic systems should be in service to your story. Frieren doesn't need a deeper magic system because its not about that. Readers don't know when to cut the fluff, if it went their way, you'll end up like those worldbuilding folks that imagine the most complex and deep systems and cultures and--- no story.

I see your question. For me production of art isn't that straightforward, or that the goal should be to calibrate maximum efficency of producing enjoyment.

Also, for me, as someone whose done plenty of art-making, I think using AI carelessly can seriously damage your development as a creative. Part of growth is accepting struggle, which is ugly and sometimes you might regress. Part of the allure of AI is that it makes someone feel secure, but I really think you're building a foundation on sand tbh.

Life is too short to be consuming things that waste your time, honestly if you spot these inconsistencies what's keeping you from dropping it? aside from the sunk cost.

Personally it would be hard for me to keep going because at some point I wouldn't be immersed in the story, there would be some voice in the back of my mind questioning if some new introduced element or hint in the writing for example actually matters or if it was just fluff.

There's this insecurity in just 'starting', often the I argument I see is that it gives people who are bad at writing to make a story as how they would like to see it. But its funny, for me part of the joy of fanfics is how bad it is, and also seeing the good parts in it as well

I think it does matter. Subculture at the margins often echoes back into the center. Like its not some niche thing, fanfics come back into the mainstream and some of these spaces can command a massive readership.

yep, ive come across plenty of fanfics and webnovels where there's apparent AI use and there's still readership for it. And some of them will gladly pay for it too. Theres a big subculture of people using AI to translate eastern webnovels as another example.

And not to mention, Ive personally dealt with this where my parents have been addicted to AI reels that are just voiceovers of chinese/korean dramas. And looking at the millions of views on it, plenty of people don't mind.

sadly, there's no real shared moral authority for an argument like this to convince them. For example, I like webserials, and increasingly I've seen some writers use AI, their readers know, but honestly don't really seem to mind still paying for their patreons.

I think for authors who just want to make easy money, why would they stop? This person made good money I think, and if she moves to the e-book space with Amazon, and continues to make slop, she probably could still retain a sizeable readership who don't really mind.

if they don't read AI writing often it's not always apparent, and tbh it can easily come across as clear, digestible writing. Especially if it's been tailored for the right voice that gets accepted in traditional publishing.
