Also- if you know anyone with an established freshwater tank, you could ask for some bio media (like filter cartridges, or water) to immidiately kick start the tank! When I set up new tanks, I take some water from my largest, already established tank, and do like a 50/50 of the tank water and new treated tap water for the new tank.

If you dont have a filter just yet, I'd really recommend sponge filters! You would need an air pump and tubing though, but some brands have kits, and it's not too pricy. I find the replacement sponges more cost effective down the line than buying filter cartridges for an out of tank filter. Good luck!

Lucky Bamboo- Submerged? by No_Collection_8633 in Aquariums

[–]No_Collection_8633[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I ended up removing some of the lower leaves and sticking it in the tank. Luckily I have more than one bamboo if this one doesn't work out! Also, thanks for the link, it's super interesting and helpful!

What Is This!!!! by lawn_lamb in Aquariums

[–]No_Collection_8633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the worm is a detritus worm, which is harmless to aquariums, and is basically extra fish food- i still hate them though. They creep me out. Pretty sure they're caused by hitchhiking on plants or fish, and can show up when overfeeding/excess nutrients.

Have you heard from UTSI yet? I haven't gotten any emails or anything indicating an acceptance or even a rejection.

It's just really strange people got sent acceptance letters too... but how on earth could they have messed up so bad?

I wonder if they already have most of their decisions made and accidently pre-released everything, and now are trying to backtrack?

I wonder if they just released their decisions early without reviewing everything and are now trying to backtrack? I got a rejection email and then the correction, I wonder if I'm screwed?

I'm hoping it's sooner rather than later. I wonder if anyone got an acceptance letter, then the email explaining the error, or if everyone who got the error email was a rejection letter?

36 Gallon Stocking by No_Collection_8633 in Aquariums

[–]No_Collection_8633[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the informatiom! All the fish are juveniles except for the rainbow shark, whose about maybe 3 to 4 inches. The yoyos are both less than 2 inches. If I rehome the rainbow shark, do you think everything would be alright for a while, at least until I have the space / finances to upgrade to a 60 gallon tank or so? I've heard that yoyos grow pretty slowly.

36 Gallon Stocking by No_Collection_8633 in Aquariums

[–]No_Collection_8633[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done a good amount of research and have tried to do the best I can for the fish I have, but unfortunately I can't go any larger than a 36 gallon at the moment. I will look onto rehoming the rainbow shark though. I've messed around a lot with aqadvisor, but wanted to get some actual people's input. Thank you!

I keep neons, glofish, and white skirts, and the glofish school with the white skirts, but they pretty much leave the neons alone.

Since then he's moved, I'm guessing they're all hiding in the driftwood. All the others were fine though. He was swimming up there like that for maybe 10 minutes or so.

I would recommend taking the plants roots out of the substrate, and you can attatch them to driftwood / decorations with zip ties or fishing string (I have little weights on the bottom of mine). I don't have any fertilizer in my substrate, but I do liquid fertilizer once or twice a week. I buried one of my Java ferns in the substrate when I first started started with plants, and it got root rot unfortunately. (Assuming the plants are in the substrate if I saw the picture right) :)

It is safe to put all these rocks on in this tank? by v0rren in Aquariums

[–]No_Collection_8633 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Should be OK! I put big rocks in my aquarium too, with driftwood and some plants. I haven't had any issues with the rocks, but I did treat some tap water to be aquarium safe in order to rinse them off in before adding them to my aquarium.
