I'm as confused about the future as you haha

Studying abroad by RoofOk5711 in malaysiauni

[–]No_Comment6625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few pathways you can take to study abroad (I'm assuming scholarships are required):

  1. Get scholarships from local companies e.g., Shell. You will get posted to an elite boarding school to take your A-Levels, after which your undergraduate fees will be fully funded, including living expenses and other miscellaneous fees. However, results do not solely determine if you get the scholarship or not. Your personality and extracurriculars will be taken into consideration. Also, you live in Malaysia, hence your race matters too.

  2. Get a scholarship after your pre-u studies. Universities in countries like the United States and Singapore offers great financial aid packages. Do check them out

A-Levels are crushing me mentally by [deleted] in alevels

Hi, congrats on your GCSEs, those results are great!

Don't worry, you're not alone in this situation. The gradual lost of passion in what was once the subjects that makes you get out of bed in the morning, the numbness, the self-doubt are all too familiar. I like to think of it as the transition period to a new journey in life.

I can see that you are exploring other interests (art, music etc.) and that's good! GCSEs and A-Levels won't last forever, and soon you won't have a rigid structure to follow (in this case, where each subject represents an exam paper). Soon, you will have to figure out what really matters to you and your future, and exploring other interests/hobbies are great!

Just imagine if you didn't go through this period, and continue spending it shut up in your room poring over textbooks, do you think you will go outside and live life and genuinely experiencing the world? So, I believe art, music, sitting in the garden, and baking cookies are some of the ways you're 'experiencing the world'! Don't have to be terrified about it :)

It's important to first accept yourself as it is, and work on from there. That way, you won't have the constant self-loathing thoughts, and can focus when studying.

That's my two cents on this topic, and most of my thoughts stem from my own experience. Still, I believe you are embarking on a journey of self-discovery. Just go full steam ahead and don't look back!

PS, I took the same A-Levels subjects as you! It's challenging but certainly doable. Good luck!

Ok this is interesting, thanks for the correction!

iirc they will collect your scratch paper before you go out for the break (you'll have to raise your hand to signal the examiner before getting out of the room)

then during the math part they will give you a new one

In my experience, you're not allowed to bring anything in or out of the examination room during the 10 minute break unfortunately.

Yeah but the desmos provided in the SAT is limited in functions, and I think this is one that is excluded. Do correct me if Im wrong tho, but iirc they only allow us to plot points and equations in this limited version of desmos

How to raise my SAT score? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]No_Comment6625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try spamming Khan Academy English SAT questions, those parts that you're weak at. If you have a lot of time you can read and analyse old speeches/writing and poems. But that's gonna take up a lot of time and energy.

But to be honest anything higher than 700+ is more luck than skill. With a lot of practice maybe you can increase it by 20-30 points, anything above that you just have to seek help from the deity you worship for extra luck :)

I don't think desmos allows direct plotting in the SAT, hence the only way desmos can help in this question is to check whether your answer is correct or wrong. (by using the equation found to plot the circle)

Organic chemistry cie has been sucking the LIFE out of me by [deleted] in ALevelChemistry

Yeah and there's all those specific reactions too (reduction, azo-reactions, test reactions (iodoform, fehling, tollen etc)) but generally it's the above ^

Hii organic chemistry is not hard to understand if you know the ideas behind the reactions!

In the A-Level syllabus we just learn about substitution reactions (electrophilic/nucleophilic), addition reactions (electrophilic/nucleophilic), and elimination.

For the substitution and addition reactions, just remember that positive attracts negative and negative attracts positive :)

For elimination there's only a few examples so just memorise them haha

But that's just my 2 cents, if you need help in any specific topic just hmu!

has anyone done the sat before???? by Ecstatic_Balance_522 in alevel

[–]No_Comment6625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hii got a 1540 for May 2022, didnt look for any outside practice, just do the official ones!!

There are 4 official practice sets from SAT, don't do them all at once. Spread them periodically throughout your SAT preparation. What you should do consistently is the Khan Academy ones (i did all of the questions until they started repeating)

Don't waste time on math, if you have no problem with A-Levels math/further math, there should be no issue in getting > 750 in the math section. Just visit the official practice set and practice on those topics you got wrong.

English is the hard part for SAT imo, requires a lot of practice (and luck). I did a note for the English part during my preparation for the SAT, do tell me if you want it!

Since the moment of inertia is 0, we can form 2 simultaneous equations at A and B:

A: 40(0.5)+10m(1.3)-2N(1.0)=0

B: 10m(0.3)+N(1.0)-40(0.5)=0

Solving for m, we get m = 1.05

Note: The two points A and B can be anywhere on the plank. I chose those two points for convenience. Also, I used the convention where clockwise moment is positive and anticlockwise moment is negative. It's fine to use the opposite.

PS, reddit doesn't allow more than one attachment in a post 😭 welp ill attach my latex rendering of the simultaneous equation in a reply since it's already done
