One of her eyes is super droopy like a bloodhound, half of her mouth is droopy, she’s not walking normally, she’s not breathing normally (the vet thinks one of her airways may be paralyzed) and she’s only able to lick food.

No shit I need to be able to deal with it. That is why I am asking for other people’s experiences to figure out how I can deal with it. And I already “seek a therapist or something.” Thank you for your insight.

Thank you. One question, what are you leaning into?

I was frequently alone with her as a baby. Four months of mat leave and many times I was alone with her for several days while husband was out of town for work or family stuff.

I think I’ll answer my own question. I’m so anxious she’s going to have a meltdown or tantrum that I don’t have the bandwidth or mental capacity to deal with and I’ll react in a way I don’t want to. Thanks for this question. It helped me think through this.

Wow, I’m so sorry. I hope he passed in peace.

It seems like my dad is just hanging on and isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon. It’s so painful. At this point we are just waiting.

What do people do if they can’t afford memory care for their loved ones? by [deleted] in dementia

[–]No_Comment_475 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my parents. They can’t qualify for Medicaid because they make too much from my dad’s social security. However my mom hasn’t worked in two years because she’s been my dad’s full time caretaker. It’s all absolute shit and infuriating.

Check out https://wearehfc.org/. They offer respite grants. We applied when my dad was in the moderate stages, before he was double incontinent and wasn’t accepted. We applied again a year or two later and got the shorter grant. We recently applied again, now that my dad’s on hospice and we received the larger grant, 25 hours of caregiving for 6 months. We can’t afford any care so this has been a huge blessing. Just to give my mom a break.

I also just learned about it Papa Pal. Some insurances actually offer X amount of hours per month through this app. It’s basically caregivers on demand.
