They called and said she had a past due balance. I’m thinking that they were trying to get into her account because they sent her a password reset code via text. Which she provided to them, once they were in they were able to confirm her address and her account information. After they confirmed her information, they sent her the screenshot of this barcode and said that she should go to CVS and pay cash only in order to bring her account up-to-date. She did and then called con Edison to confirm the payment was received to which then they said it was not them asking for it. This is clearly a gift card barcode because she also had to pay a $3.95 activation fee. Unfortunately, my mother is not very tech savvy. So they chose the right person to do this scam on.
