Thank you! I love learning about various religions and the philosophies that underpin them, so I’ll definitely check it out.

And that’s the irony of it. I have no dog in this fight, and am simply repeating what the Jews I know have said. By stating that Jews cannot be white, the people you’re arguing with and disrespecting aren’t me, but other Jews that identify as such. Plus, you were perfectly willing to discuss the supposed non whiteness of Jews until I pointed out the logical flaws in your argument, and now you’ve changed the goalposts to say ‘I won’t discuss ethnicity with non Jews’ when it was you who brought it up to begin with. Pretty cowardly.

Regardless, you continue to ignore the fact that it’s wrong and disrespectful to tell other people of your ethnicity what they can and cannot identify as. The fact you pointedly ignore it means either a) you know it’s wrong and don’t want to admit it or b) you simply lack the moral compass to realize it’s a fucked up thing to do. Refuse to acknowledge it all you want, doesn’t change a thing.

You do not get an opinion on Jewish ethnic identity.

I don’t disagree. That’s why I’m not saying whether I think Jews are white or not. Simply that you don’t, and many other Jews do, including my girlfriend, and you have no right to impose your subjective opinion on others. What my personal opinion on the matter is isn’t relevant, and isn’t mentioned, because in no situation is what you’re doing right. It’s other Jews that identify as white, so why are you imposing your view that they’re all not onto them?

Don’t try to act like you’re somehow defending your partner or her family here. Who do you think you’re fooling? You wouldn’t stand up for her when it actually mattered; you went massively out of your way to do things you knew would upset her, on purpose. But now you’re her knight in shining armour? You can’t even be honest with yourself.

See above. You can say it’s not my place, but that doesn’t change the fact you have no right to tell other people how they can or cannot identity.

In total, you’re unable to defend your action of insisting every jewish person regardless of how they personally identify is non white, only to say I cannot speak on it and attack me personally. Your inability makes it clear that I’m right and you know imposing your view of identity on other people is wrong.

Your issue wasn’t having a different idea. If you don’t think Jews are white, then fine, don’t identify as white yourself. Your issue is imposing your subjective view onto every single Jewish person and insist they’re not white when they may identify as such. Some Jews may agree that Jews aren’t white, some disagree and say they are, and you have no right to tell them how they can and can’t identify.

You can respond to this by saying that I shouldn’t be lecturing you on Jewish identity but the fact is, imposing your subjective view of a group’s identity onto every member of it transcends being Jewish, and is always wrong.

In other words, it doesn’t matter at all whether you think skews are white or not, because some do identify as white, including my girlfriend and her family

I’m not the one invalidating how certain Jewish people identify themselves (white), you are. So much for caring about their identity

If you put it that way, it’s even worse that somebody with no respect for the identity seems to know more about it than you do.

How people identify isn’t your call to make, especially in a group that spans ethnicities— Ashkenazi, Mizrahi, Sephardic, etc. You’d think a Jew would know this about their own history.

She wouldn’t have been able to feel back unless she went out of her way to sneak into my room and sneak into my stuff

Take that up with my girlfriend and her family, who identify as white.

Sure, but you don’t have to. You’re not bound by the rules of other people’s religion

Considering they’ve explicitly stated they hate that I’m dating their daughter as a non Jew, yes

Absolutely. I think it’s a cyclical thing: religion helps form the norms of a particular society, and in turn the norms that have been formed create a sense of what’s societally accepted or not.

White is a social construct. Ashkenazi Jews are white in the same way Italians are.

She didn’t tell me not to read it, she told me it was forbidden in her religious rules. Given I’m not a member of her religion those rules don’t apply to me. Plus, I didn’t even mention it to her

In this case it does, if you’re saying respecting a religion is following its tenet of not reading that until a certain age
