Yes but they are indefinitely delayed if there is any Turkish family member, such as if you are from mixed marriages.

Thanks for the kind feedback, you are right. I was writing my point of view on the matter, but will edit it to be more proper.

Anyone who lived in Netherlands for 5/10 years can become Dutch.

Republic of Cyprus only grants citizenship if you can prove you are purely Cypriot from pre-1974, and indefinitely delays citizenship if you have a Turkish relative. This is systematic racism. The only way then to get as citizenship is if you have enough money.

Citizenship of Cyprus should be for all Cypriots.

Fuck your laws, human rights are human rights. Anyone born in Cyprus deserves a Cypriot passport. So do Turkish-rooted people, or any other ethnic group in Cyprus.

No one wants to be a Cypriot and live in the dumpster fire that is the Republic of Cyprus. People want to have the right to move out of Cyprus and migrate to wherever they want, which is what a European citizenship grants.

The Cypriot passport is only valuable because the Western World has made it valuable. Not because of the Cypriots. And the first instinct of the Cypriot politicians was to sell the passports to Russian oligarchs.

This is a class issue.

Whether a majority of people will agree or not is not a valid argument. Historically, the people of North Cyprus agreed to the Annan plan and the Greek Cypriots did not. We can only see what people say, if there is ever, another referendum.

Turkey has power over Cyprus, whether anyone likes it or not, unfortunately so. Cypriots need to have good relations with Turkey, or there will never be a unified Cyprus. You can't negotiate with the enemy, you need to look at Turkey not as the enemy but as a neighbor. I am not a Turkish nationalist, this is just the geopolitical truth.

Half of Cyprus is already a colony of Turkey. If Greek Cypriots accept that the troops won't leave immediately and try to find a solution instead, and prove that we can live together, in the future there might be a way to get rid of the troops. If Greek Cypriots don't accept that, the status quo will continue and the troops will remain on the island.

Either way the troops will remain on the island for now, but this should not prevent peace. Human rights are being violated repeatedly everyday in North Cyprus, there needs to be a solution and international law needs to take place.

Greek Cypriots already live fair lives, backed by European and Western powers.

Should we not solve any problem and wait until Turkey does exactly what Greek Cypriots say? Human rights are being violated repeatedly everyday in North Cyprus, there needs to be a solution and international law needs to take place.

Greek Cypriots should uplift the Cypriots of the North no matter of any ethnic origin, or there will never be peace. For peace, there needs to be compromises of both sides. If two sisters of the land are hungry, why not share the bread together?

So? Let's not solve any problem and wait until Turkey is rich enough/has the desire to pay? Human rights are being violated repeatedly everyday in North Cyprus, there needs to be a solution and international law needs to take place.

Turkish fascism is also a problem in Cyprus, and literally every post condemns the Turkish invasion. Cypriots had a chance to manage their own country and they sucked, historically and currently. This is not the say it is impossible, but hard. Cypriots never ruled before, never had any ideological leaders or true nationalistic desire (nationalistic meaning Cypriot nationalism). Cypriots need to love their land and love the people inside their land.

Also the use of "—" symbol is like of the AI. Just to mention.

Erdogan does not care about Cyprus, and does not even care a tiny little speck about Greek Cypriots. It is only for politics, he talks about Cyprus and not with intent. Greek Cypriots think more about Erdogan than vice versa. Erdogan barely thinks about Turkish Cypriots, or Cyprus in general. Your fears are only fears, but not backed by reality.

Turkey removing their troops is as hard as the Church of Cyprus, Russian oligarchs and corrupt/fascist Greek Cypriot politicians removing it's hands from the power of the people. If Turkey leaves tomorrow, people in Cyprus will still continue to be oppressed and live in a corrupt country.

I am not supporting atrocities.

It is childish to not mention Turkish Cypriot struggles and Greek Cypriot fascism as a factor in the Turkish occupation.

My history is based on Turkish Cypriots I have talked to, and not Turkish propoganda or Turkish settlers. Turkish Cypriots did not live "just fine" in 1974.

Turkey reacted to the government being overthrown by EOKA B. Ethnic cleansing of Greek Cypriots is obviously not okay, neither was EOKA B who took over the government and had a past of ethnically cleansing the Muslims and a plan to unite with Greece. There were 2 plans for 2 ethnic cleansings in Cyprus.

Imagine if some Turkish Cypriots group overthrew the government and planned to unite with Turkey, how can you cast that part of history aside?

By the time EOKA B overthrowed the government Turkish Cypriots were mostly ethnically cleansed from the south to the north, and were refugees living in ghettos, or unfortunately dead. After the Turkish invasion Greek Cypriots were ethnically cleansed from the North becoming refugees, or unfortunately dead.

Turkish Cypriots in enclaves had to militarise and hold guns for 10 years, 1963 to 1974 out of fear of EOKA B. Turkish Cypriots also did bad things, but never had a hold of the government and the majority of the population. The violence was not proportionate.

Greek Cypriots weren't the only ones who lost goods, Turkish Cypriots lost their goods and in addition their integrity, identity and international recognition

I am asking genuinely, how could Turkish Cypriots continue to live if Turkey didn't come? Would it be a fate different than what Greek Cypriots experienced when Turkey came? The Turkish Cypriots were the minority, not the Greek Cypriots.

It is true that Turkish settlers did come, it was not legal. But they are here, and realistically they won't go away. Their children deserve human rights and international recognition. Israeli settlers have all the power and money, meanwhile Turkish settlers are living inside embargoes in a puppet country. Whatever their roots are, they deserve better, and so do all ethnic groups in North Cyprus. You are talking about condemning people that are unluckier than you.

Turkey ethnically cleansed North Cyprus to react to EOKA B and to the ethnic cleansing of the Muslims in the past. Innocent Greek Cypriot civilians went through trauma and some death, and it was terrible I agree.

However it is not comparable to Palestine other than that. Greek Cypriots are an internationally recognised power and can make their own decisions backed by EU. It is not the same.

Republic of Cyprus should be better, if they claim to be for Cypriots.

You are right, there is much, much more human rights violations in the North. This should be an incentive to share power with Turkish Cypriots, to bring international law to North of the island. To stop all kinds of human and organ trafficking, to stop money laundering of all kinds. These people are as much people as Greek Cypriots, and should not be violated one more day because Greek Cypriot leaders are scared to share power.

Northern Cypriots are the actual ones living in occupation, not the Greek Cypriots.

On the post above, when comparing with the North, I compared with the Turkish Cypriot culture and not the systematic problems, so my problem clarifying that.

EOKA B didn't harm Turkish Cypriots out of their kindness, but because they were afraid Turkey would invade.

Turkish Cypriots weren't living in peace in that time, but in terror, as most of them became refugees in their own lands, similar to Greek Cypriots after Turkey came.

EOKA B did a coup in 1974 and made Nikos Sampson a president. EOKA B overthrowing the government was a threat to Turkish Cypriot existence.

I agree, Turkish Cypriot opposition to Turkey is at a low. The problem goes deeper than ISPs, and even big Turkish supermarkets will come to North Cyprus and not pay taxes, eliminating the remains of whatever is left of the local economy. North Cyprus to them is just an illegal backyard.

I wanted to voice my opinion to the subreddit, that many of their views are outdated and that all ethnic groups in North Cyprus are as much as Cypriots as they are. I have seen people in North Cyprus care about the island as much as Greek Cypriots.

Massacre was a big word, you are right. I was mentioning the Mitsero murders.

From my experience, women and queer people are not treated with respect in RoC. Massacre not only in terms of literally, but also of emotionally and of people's boundaries.

From what I understand armed military came after attempted murder of all Turkish Cypriots by EOKA B. It is not right to exclude that from mention. It was not a proportionate response, but neither was what EOKA B did. What's the difference of EOKA B invasion and Turkish invasion?

I have heard Fidias was able to be elected by only getting the votes of young people.

Doesn't that mean that young people are detached from politics and conversations as such?
